Team effort leads Barton to sweep over Hesston #GoBarton

The Barton Community College volleyball team utilized a total team effort Friday evening inside the Barton Gymnasium making short work of Hesston Community College in three sets 25-9, 25-8, and 25-13.

Closing out non-conference play, the Cougars stretched their season mark to 17-9 while the loss drops the Larks to 1-24 overall. Barton will have the weekend off before returning to conference play Monday evening with a trip out west to Colby Community College for a scheduled 6:30 p.m. first serve. 

Posting its highest team attack of the season at a .494 percentage, the Cougars spread the wealth with 11 of the 13 recording a kill or more. Making the most of her fourth start of the season, Jadyn Brown led the Barton offense with a new career high 11 kills on 21 attempts for a .500 attack. Sophomore Mylena Testoni served up a new career high with six service aces.

The Cougars trailed for the lone time at 1-0 until a pair of Joelle LaForce kills, Addison Crites rise in shine and Testoni service ace prompted a 5-0 spurt. Barton controlled momentum ballooning its lead to 11-4 with four-straight off a pair of Brown attacks and Hanna Miller kill. The Cougars closed the opening set scoring seven of the final eight.

Similarly in the second set Barton opened the frame on a 14-3 stretch, until coasting to the final seven points for a 25-8 lead.

The Cougars and Larks swapped a pair of 3-0 runs to open the third before Barton stretched the gap to 14-6 behind an 11-3 run capped on one of two Jada Davis kills in the set. Barton put it in cruise control down the stretch outscoring Hesston 11-7.
