The Barton volleyball team closed out the home portion of the 2017 schedule Monday with a tough straight set victory over Dodge City Community College. The Cougars fought off the Conquistadors in the narrowest of margins in the first two sets, 27-25 and 26-24, before sending the sophomore class out with a 25-17 match clincher. Improving to 7-8 in conference play and 17-13 overall, Barton will look to maintain its fifth place standing in its conference finale coming on Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at sixth place Garden City Community College (6-8, 10-20). Seventh place Dodge City drops to 4-11 in conference play with the loss and 18-14 on the season.

Two sophomores led the .162 offensive attack with Kelsie Antcliff putting down a season best thirteen kills while Monique Oliveira struck for twelve while registering ten digs for the Brazilian's tenth double-double of the year. Laine Alves Conceicao just missed her tenth double-digit kill night matching fellow freshman Ariana Taylor's collegiate best nine kills to go along with two solo and four assisted blocks.

Carolina Goncalves put up thirty-nine assists in her Barton Gym finale to up her program tenth best career mark to 1715.

Ilona Boniface led the backline with fourteen digs with Conceicao helping to protect the net in assisting on six of the Cougars' fourteen assisted blocks. In the ninth spot on the career chart, Averie Warehime added to her assisted block total by adding three for a career in progress 155, just four away from moving up to the seventh position.
