Behind two wins including a road victory over a nationally ranked opponent, three members of the Barton Community College volleyball team were rewarded with the naming of the weekly KJCCC Kansas MTXE Division I Volleyball Athletes of the Week for week seven of the season. Laine Alves Conceicao was named the offensive player with Carolina Goncalves earning the setter award while Ilona Boniface anchored the backline for the defensive player award.

Conceicao continued her hot streak powering Barton to the consecutive wins last week including a four set upset victory at No. 19 Colby Community College. Hitting for a .350 attack with ten kills in three short sets versus Pratt Community College, Conceicao struck for a .343 attack putting down seventeen kills in taking down the ranked Trojans. The match marked freshman from Brazil's fourth straight and sixth of the last seven matches with double digit kills as she accounted for 27 of Barton's 95 kills (28%).

Goncalves averaged 7.4 assists per set last week in Barton's 6-2 offensive attack helping quarterback the Cougars' sweep of the Jayhawk opponents. Recording 7.33 per set and just missing a double-double with nine digs in the short night victory over Pratt, Goncalves upped her assists to 7.5 per set in Colby while adding fifteen digs to record the Brazilian sophomore's sixth double-double of the season.

Since being inserted this past week as the starting Libero in the Barton lineup, Boniface has been targeted and delivered in helping anchor the back line in the Cougars' two victories. Setting a collegiate high seventeen digs in Monday's win over Pratt, the freshman from France was spectacular in Wednesday's upset in resetting her career best to twenty-eight digs to average 6.42 per set for the week.

Now 13-11 on the season, the fifth place 5-6 Cougars' next opponent will be 8-2 second place and 17-9 Hutchinson Community College (8-2, 17-9) this Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
