    The Barton Community College volleyball season came to an end three hours from home Tuesday as the Cougars’ comeback fell short in a fifth set defeat at Colby Community College. The fifth seeded Cougars took the first set 26-24 before the fourth seeded Trojans took the next two by identical 25-20 set scores. Closing out the fourth on a 4-0 run, Barton forced the deciding set with a 25-21 win and led through most of the fifth but couldn’t hold off a 4-0 Trojan charge down the stretch in defending the Community Building with a 15-12 victory. The loss ended Barton’s season at 18-18 while Colby improves to 23-10 advancing to the Region VI Final Four held Sunday in Liberal, Kansas.

    Less than forty-eight hours after a road victory to wrap up the conference slate, the Barton volleyball team returned to the court nearly 450 miles from home participating in the Western Nebraska Community College Classic. The weekend trip resulted in a four-pack of losses to conclude the Cougars’ regular season mark at 18-17.

    Looking to seal up fifth place in the Jayhawk West Division, the Barton volleyball team accomplished the mission Wednesday night in Garden City with a 3-1 victory at Garden City Community College. Dropping the first set 25-20 with a sub- par performance, the Cougars played better as the night went on taking the second set 25-20 before dominating the final two 25-18 and 25-15 to run their unblemished series mark against the Broncbusters to 37-0.
  • Cougars sweep Dodge City in home finale #GoBarton

    The Barton volleyball team closed out the home portion of the 2017 schedule Monday with a tough straight set victory over Dodge City Community College. The Cougars fought off the Conquistadors in the narrowest of margins in the first two sets, 27-25 and 26-24, before sending the sophomore class out with a 25-17 match clincher. Improving to 7-8 in conference play and 17-13 overall, Barton will look to maintain its fifth place standing in its conference finale coming on Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at sixth place Garden City Community College (6-8, 10-20). Seventh place Dodge City drops to 4-11 in conference play with the loss and 18-14 on the season.

    The Barton volleyball team stepped out of conference play on Saturday for a twin bill in Hesston, Kansas, coming away with a sweep beginning with a 25-23, 25-19, and 25-22 dispatching of host Hesston College before putting away Southeast Community College 25-13, 25-22, and 25-22. The day’s work improved Barton to 16-13 on the season with two conference games remaining, the first coming in the fifth place 6-8 Cougars’ home finale on Monday against seventh place Dodge City Community College (4-10, 18-13) for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
  • Barton Volleyball falls in four at No. 4 Seward County #GoBarton

    Playing in The Greenhouse is never fun for an opponent but the Barton Volleyball put up a good fight Wednesday night in Liberal before succumbing to No. 4 ranked Seward County Community College in four sets. After dropping the first 25-12, the Cougars handed the Saints their first set loss at home all season with a 25-20 win before Seward County regrouped in finishing off the final two sets 25-17 and 25-10. The loss drops the Cougars into sixth place in the conference standings at 6-8 and 14-13 while Seward County solidifies their top spot with an unblemished 13-0 mark improving to 28-1 on the year. Barton will step out of conference play on Saturday with a twin bill in Hesston, Kansas, beginning with a match against host Hesston College at 10:00 a.m. followed by a noon first serve against Southeast Community College. The Cougars will then play its final home match of the season on Monday in welcoming Dodge City Community College to the Barton Gym.

    The Barton Community College volleyball team handled Cloud County Community College for a 3-1 match victory Saturday at the Barton Gym to sweep the season series over the T-birds. The Cougars took the first two sets rather handily at 25-12 and 25-17 but following a ten minute intermission, dropped the third 25-19 before pulling away late for a 25-20 match clincher. The victory improves the Cougars to 6-7 in conference play and 14-12 overall while Cloud County drops to 1-12 and 4-21 on the year. Barton’s next court time will come Wednesday as the Cougars travel to Liberal for a 6:30 p.m. first serve against No. 5 ranked Seward County Community College.

    Needing to limit errors against the always solid Blue Dragon squad, the Barton Community College volleyball team committed its most errors in over a month Wednesday night at the Sports Arena resulting in a 3-1 loss to Hutchinson Community College 18-25, 23-25, 25-13, and 16-25. The loss drops Barton to 5-7 in Jayhawk play and 13-12 on the year while the Blue Dragons improve to 10-2 in conference and 19-9 overall. The fifth place Cougars’ next action comes Saturday in hosting ninth place Cloud County Community College (1-11, 4-20) in a 2:00 p.m. “Dig Pink” match.

    Behind two wins including a road victory over a nationally ranked opponent, three members of the Barton Community College volleyball team were rewarded with the naming of the weekly KJCCC Kansas MTXE Division I Volleyball Athletes of the Week for week seven of the season. Laine Alves Conceicao was named the offensive player with Carol Goncalves earning the setter award while Ilona Boniface anchored the backline for the defensive player award.

    The Barton Community College volleyball team enjoyed its second straight revenge match victory as the Cougars traveled three hours Wednesday night to take down No. 19 Colby Community College in four sets 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, and 25-11. The victory snapped a nine match losing streak against the Trojans improving Barton to 13-11 on the season and further solidifying their fifth place in the standings at 5-6. Having moved up one spot in the latest national poll, Colby drops into a second place tie in the Jayhawk at 8-2 and 18-4 on the season with its previous three losses coming to ranked opponents. Barton will have to wait a week for its next match but will need the preparation time as the Cougars’ next opponent will be second place and nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College on October 11 at the Sports Arena.

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team enjoyed a slice of revenge pie Monday evening at the Barton Gym with a short night of identical 25-15 set victories in sweeping Pratt Community College. Having sent just a freshman squad to Pratt early in September and returning home after being swept in three close sets, the complete squad dominated the net throughout the evening to go along with a season high attack percentage for a revengeful thumping of the Beavers. The victory gives Barton a two game lead for the fifth spot in the standings at 4-6 and 12-11 overall while Pratt drops to 2-7 and 6-19 on the year. Next up for the Cougars will be a Wednesday trip to Colby Community College for a 6:30 p.m. first serve against the second place 8-1 Trojans who have won eight of their last ten to pop into the national rankings at No. 20 with an 18-3 record.

    The Barton Community College volleyball team was swept Saturday at the Barton Gym as the Grizzlies of Butler Community College took down the Cougars 27-25, 25-20, and 25-19. The loss drops Barton to 3-6 in conference play and 11-11 on the season while the Grizzlies fourth straight victory improves their conference mark to 6-3 and 16-6 overall. The Cougars will return to the court on Monday as Barton hosts Pratt Community College in a 6:30 p.m. first serve.

    The Barton Community College volleyball team took care of a hot Dodge City Community College squad Wednesday night ending the Conquistador seven match win streak with a 3-1 victory in Dodge City 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, and 25-19. The victory pushes Barton over the .500 mark at 11-10 on the season and into the fifth spot in the conference standings at 3-5 while dropping Dodge City to 15-8 on the year and behind the Cougars in the race at 2-5. Barton’s next action will come 2:00 p.m. Saturday as Butler Community College comes to the Barton Gym sitting just ahead of the Cougars at 5-3 and 15-6 overall.

    Digging early set deficits left the Barton Community College Volleyball team trying to climb out of a hole all night as the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College held off all Cougar rallies Monday night for a conference sweep at the Barton Gym 25-12, 25-18, and 25-21. The loss drops Barton to 1-5 in Jayhawk play and 9-10 on the year while the nationally receiving votes Blue Dragons recover from their first conference loss on Saturday improving to 5-1 and 9-5 on the season. The Cougars’ next action comes Saturday in hosting Garden City Community College in a 2:00 p.m. first serve.

    It took the Barton Community College volleyball team five matches into the conference season but the Cougars knocked the proverbial monkey off their back Wednesday night in Concordia with a four set victory at Cloud County Community College. The Cougars held off a rally to win the first 25-23, temporarily taking the match off in the second losing 25-13 before hammering the T-birds in identical 25-14 scores to snap the conference drought. Improving to 1-4 in Jayhawk play, the victory also puts an end to a seven match losing streak to even Barton’s season mark at 9-9 while keeping Cloud County winless in conference at 0-4 and 3-10 on the year. Barton’s next court time will come Monday against the other end of the conference spectrum as co-leader and nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College (4-0, 8-4) comes to Great Bend for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.

Dropping its seventh straight match, the 8-9 Cougars return to conference schedule on Wednesday looking to improve its 0-4 Jayhawk record traveling to Cloud County Community College (0-2, 3-8) for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.

    A shorthanded Barton Community College Volleyball team made the short trip south to Pratt Community College, returning home after an equally short night on the court as the Cougars were swept 25-22, 26-24, and 25-21. Playing all freshman in the contest, Barton was in all three sets but couldn’t close out as Pratt dominated the latter stages of each frame to secure the win improving to 2-0 and 3-7 on the year while sending Barton to its fourth straight loss to open the conference schedule. Now 8-5 on the season the Cougars will head even further south to Odessa, Texas, for the weekend’s Odessa College Tournament.

    The night couldn’t have gone any worse for the Barton Community College Volleyball team as nothing seemed in sync dropping three quick sets to Colby Community College 25-22, 25-10, and 25-18. The loss is the fifth straight at the Barton Gym to Colby, suffering its third consecutive conference match to open the season dropping to 8-4 while the Trojans’ ninth straight win in the series improves Colby to 9-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

    Taking the No. 6 ranked team in the country to an epic fifth set, the Barton Community College volleyball team finished 3-1 over the weekend with the lone loss coming to Western Nebraska Community College. The Cougars hosted the ten-team twenty-match Barton Classic, opening up play Friday winning 3-1 over Lamar Community College before winding up the first day of action holding off McCook Community College in five sets. On Saturday Barton took care of Casper College in four but had their four match win streak snapped in an epic 18-16 fifth set to Western Nebraska.

    The Barton Community College volleyball team picked up a much needed win Thursday night as the Cougars took care of Trinidad State Junior College in straight sets 25-16, 25-18, and 25-16. Snapping a two game conference slide, the Cougars controlled the Trojans for most of the night utilizing rotations throughout the roster improving to 5-2 on the season while sending Trinidad State to 3-4. Both teams will return to the Barton Gym for Friday and Saturday’s Barton Classic with the Trojans beginning play at 11:00 a.m. versus Vernon College while Barton takes on Lamar Community College at 1:00 p.m.

    Returning to Jayhawk Conference play two days after an emotional home loss, the Barton Community College volleyball team discovered there are no days off in conference play as the Cougars took its second four-set loss falling 20-25, 25-21, 10-25, and 23-25 to Butler Community College tonight in El Dorado. The loss drops Barton to 0-2 to begin conference play and 4-2 on the season while Butler’s conference opener improves the Grizzlies to 4-1 on the season.

    Monday evening’s action at the Barton Gym started out promising for the Barton Community College volleyball team before No. 18 ranked Seward County Community College unleashed its power for a four-set Jayhawk Conference opening victory 31-33, 25-12, 25-14, and 25-10. The loss is the first for the Cougars on the young season in slipping to 4-1 while Seward County improves to 5-0.
