The Barton Community College volleyball team went 2-2 this past weekend competing at the HCC Invitational held in Highland, Kansas. The results take Barton to 8-3 on the season as the Cougars return to conference play on Wednesday hosting Butler Community College in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at the Barton Gym.
Barton opened up Friday's play defeating Southwestern Community College in straight sets 25-16, 25-13, and 25-23 before taking on host Highland Community College in the night cap. Spotting the Scotties the first two sets 25-17 and 27-25, Barton rallied to take the third 25-17 but couldn't ride the momentum to victory falling 25-18 in the fourth.
The Cougars returned to the Walters Wellness Center Saturday morning taking the first two sets against Ellsworth Community College 25-23 and 25-20 before unleashing sixteen straight points in a demolishing 25-6 victory. Hoping to return home with a 3-1 record was quickly in jeopardy in the concluding match however as Iowa Central Community College took the first set 25-15 before squeaking out a hard fought 27-25 win digging the Cougars a two-set deficit. Momentum started to turn in the third as Barton clawed its way to a 25-23 win before romping to a 25-13 victory, only to fall by a heart breaking 15-13 score in the decisive fifth set.
