    The Barton Community College volleyball program received distinguished Honor Roll academic honors Monday as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the 2016-17 academic year.
  • High school volleyball camp begins Sunday

    The Barton Community College volleyball program is offering a challenging four-day high school aged volleyball camp beginning this Sunday, June 25. Designed for players ready to compete at the high school level, emphasis on technical and tactical skill development including utilization of games, contests, and prize awarding throughout the camp adds to a fun and competitive atmosphere. Cost for the camp concluding on Wednesday, June 28, is $199 per commuter camper or $299 for overnight campers.

  • Barton Volleyball lands four on post season team

    Four members of the Barton Community College volleyball team were recently selected to the All-Jayhawk West/All-Region VI Division I squads. Leading the Cougars to a 24-11 season including a trip to the Region VI final four, two freshman and two sophomores were amongst the seventeen member first and second team selections.
  • Barton Volleyball to take on top seeded Hutchinson in Region VI Final Four

    The Barton Community College volleyball team begins its quest for its twenty-third Region VI title on Sunday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The bid will have to go through the top teams in the region beginning with taking on top seeded Hutchinson in the 2:00 p.m. semifinal match, then defeat the winner of third seeded Colby Community College and second seeded Seward County Community College in the 6:00 p.m. championship match. The winner of the Region VI Tournament advances to the NJCAA Division I Championship tournament in Casper, Wyoming, taking place November 17-19.
  • Barton Volleyball season ends in Region VI Final Four

    The Barton Community College volleyball team’s season came to an end Sunday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena as the Cougars lost in three sets to top seeded Hutchinson Community College. The Cougars lost the first 25-17 before owning sizable leads in both the second and third set before Blue Dragon rallies snatched the match victory 25-22 and 26-24. The loss ended Barton’s bid for its twenty-third Region VI title finishing the season at 24-10 while Hutchinson advanced to the championship match losing in four sets second seeded Seward County Community College to end their season at 25-12.
  • Cougar Volleyball advances to Region VI Final Four with sweep of Cloud County

    The Barton Community College volleyball team opened up the Region VI playoffs with a 25-15, 25-23, and 23-18 sweep of Cloud County Community College Tuesday night at the Barton Gym. Avenging a season ending sweep to the T-Birds last year in Concordia, the Cougars controlled most of the match behind fifteen blocks and a .360 attack percentage in terminating Cloud County’s season at 13-20. Improving to 24-9 on the season, Barton advances to the final four taking on top seeded Hutchinson Community College in Sunday’s 2:00 p.m. semifinal at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, with the winner advancing to the 6:00 p.m. championship match.
  • Barton Volleyball dominant in regular season finale at Garden City, turn focus to hosting first round playoff match

    The Barton Community College volleyball team wrapped up the regulars season Friday night with a straight domination over host Garden City Community College 25-12, 25-9, and 25-23. The fourth place Cougars conclude the conference season at 10-6 and 23-9 while Garden City slips to 2-14 and 6-26 on the year. Next up for the Cougars will be the Region VI playoffs as Barton will host 13-19 fifth seeded Cloud County Community College at 6:30 p.m. in the Barton Gym.
  • Scoring droughts doom Cougars, Barton Volleyball loses in four at Seward County

    After taking the first set at the Greenhouse in Liberal, the Barton Community College volleyball team offense went dormant for the remaining match allowing Seward County Community College to roll through the next three winning the Jayhawk match 22-25, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-14. The loss dropped Barton to 9-6 sitting comfortably in the fourth spot in the conference and 22-9 on the season while Seward County stays atop the standings at 13-2 and 22-9. Barton will conclude its three match road stretch on Friday as the Cougars play their regular season finale at Garden City Community College in a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
  • Script flipped, Cougars dropped in three at Hutchinson

    Having swept Hutchinson Community College a month prior, the script flipped at Hutchinson’s Sports Arena on Wednesday night as the Barton Community College volleyball team was dropped in three by the Blue Dragons. Never looking in sync in a 25-14 first set loss, the Cougars still didn’t have an answer for Hutchinson in the second losing by 25-12 before a 7-1 mid- third set spurt by the Blue Dragons led to a 25-21 match clincher. Dropping to 9-5 in the Jayhawk and 22-8 on the season, the Lady Cougars still have the fourth seed and home playoff game secured but see their outside chances of moving up the standings eliminated. Hutchinson meanwhile, remains in the thick of things atop the standings improving to 11-2 and 20-11 overall. Barton concludes the regular season with two road matches, the first coming in one week at Seward County Community College before a Friday trip to Garden City.
  • Barton Volleyball wraps up home regular season with four set victory over Pratt

    The Barton Community College volleyball team returned to conference play Monday night in the final regular season match at the Barton Gym, defeating Pratt Community College in four sets. The Lady Cougars took the first set 25-20 but dropped the second 22-25 before regrouping to send off the sophomores with 25-20 and 25-12 set victories. Dropping Pratt to 1-11 in conference play and 8-26 overall, the win improves Barton to 9-4 in the Jayhawk and 22-7 overall while also securing the Lady Cougars a first round playoff match for the Region VI playoffs. Barton also keeps the opportunity door open to improve its seeding but will have to do so with its final three regular season matches coming on the opponent’s home floor. The road begins on Wednesday with a trip to Hutchinson Community College for a 6:30 p.m. first-serve at the Sports Arena, concluding the regular season next week with trips to Seward County and Garden City.
  • Cougar Volleyball outmatched at No. 7 Tigers

    The Barton Community College volleyball team traveled to Arkansas City on Saturday but mentally probably stayed on the bus for the non-conference match as the Cougars took a four set loss to Division II No. 7 ranked Cowley College. Getting pounded in the first set 25-12, the Cougars bounced back to take the second 25-22 but the Tigers roared back with a 25-14 third before putting Barton away with another 25-14 beating. Barton drops to 21-7 on the season while Cowley improves to 19-7 having won their eighth straight match.
  • Cougar Volleyball falters late in 3-1 loss at Colby

    The Barton Community College volleyball team played like a conference first team through the first half of each set Wednesday evening in Colby but couldn’t finish off the Trojans of Colby Community College losing in four 25-22, 22-25, 20-25, and 21-25. The Cougars built leads no less than four points in three of the four sets, holding on to win the opener but dropping a demoralizing second and third sets before again faltering late in the fourth to suffer the 3-1 defeat.
  • Cougars sweep weekly KJCCC Volleyball awards

    In a recent release from the KJCCC, Nathalia Gouveia and Olivia Naccarato of the Barton Community College volleyball team have been voted the conference’s Players of the Week for week seven of the season. The awards bring the Cougars’ weekly haul to five this season as both Gouveia and Naccarato have been selected twice being joined by defensive specialist Lydia Konrade.
  • Barton Volleyball prevails in five at Butler

    The Barton Community College volleyball team held off the upset bid from the Grizzlies of Butler Community College Friday night at Circle High School in Towanda, Kansas, winning in five sets 25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 19-25, and 16-14. The Lady Cougars helped solidify their top four spot in the Jayhawk West improving to 8-3 and 21-5 overall while the Grizzlies fall to 3-8 in conference and 13-9 on the season. Barton will next head to first place Colby Community College on Wednesday for a key 6:30 p.m. match with the Trojans at the Community Building.
  • Cougars sweep Dodge City for fourth straight win

    The Barton Community College volleyball team avenged an early season loss to Dodge City Community College taking care of Conquistadors in straight sets Monday night at the Barton Gym. Failing to convert six match points in a five-set loss on August 31 in Dodge City, the Cougars were all business on their home floor taking care of the Conquistadors 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19. Winning their fourth straight improving to 20-5 on the season, the Cougars helped solidify their fourth place conference standing at 7-3 while dropping Dodge City into a tie for sixth place at 3-6 and 14-10 on the year. Next up for Barton will be a rare Friday night match as the Cougars travel to take on Butler Community College. Originally scheduled for Saturday in El Dorado, the match has been moved due to water damage to the Grizzlies gymnasium as the teams will square off Towanda, Kansas, in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at Circle High School.
  • Barton Volleyball sweeps non-conference games

    The Barton Community College volleyball team stepped out of conference play Saturday picking up a pair of wins Saturday in Hesston, Kansas. The Cougars began the day with a straight set victory over the junior varsity squad from Friends University 25-17, 25-16, and 25-13 before wrapping the day with a victory over host Hesston College 25-23, 25-15, 23-25, and 25-16. The victories improve Barton to 19-5 on the season heading into Monday night’s 6:30 p.m. match versus Dodge City Community College. The evening is being designated “Dig Pink” night as the Cougars and Conquistadors will wear pink uniforms signifying the start of “Breast Cancer Awareness” month.
  • Team effort gets Barton Volleyball back on track with sweep of Garden City

    The Barton Community College volleyball team made short work of its Wednesday evening conference match at the Barton Gym taking care of Garden City Community College in straight sets 25-12, 25-14, and 25-21. The victory improves the Cougars to 6-3 in the Jayhawk and 17-5 overall while dropping Garden City to 1-7 and 4-17 on the year. Barton will step out of conference play for a pair of matches Saturday in Hesston taking on the junior varsity of Friends University at noon before a 2:00 p.m. first serve against the home Larks of Hesston College.
  • Barton Volleyball has streaks snapped, fall in four to Seward County

    The Barton Community College volleyball team dropped its first opening set in eight matches falling in a spirited four sets to Seward County Community College Saturday at the Barton Gym. The Cougars bounced back from an opening 25-20 loss with a 25-13 throttling of the Saints to even the match, but as emotions and play ramped up, Barton came up on the short end of the final sets 25-23 and 25-20. The loss snapped a modest three game conference win streak dropping the Cougars to 16-5 overall while remaining in the fourth spot in Jayhawk play slipping to 5-3 as the Saints move into a three-way tie for first place at 6-1 and 14-5 on the season. Barton will next host Garden City Community College on Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. first serve before stepping out of conference play for pair of matches Saturday in Hesston.
  • Cougar Volleyball builds early leads, powers to road victory at Cloud County for third straight win

    The Barton Community College volleyball team departed the bus Wednesday night in Concordia on a mission to forget about its Saturday sweep over then No. 20 ranked Hutchinson and keep the momentum rolling. The Cougars did just that in silencing the Cloud County Community College home crowd jumping on early leads and keeping the throttle planted in a four set 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, and 25-19 victory. The third straight win keeps Barton in sole possession of fourth and one game behind the leaders at 5-2 and 16-4 on the season while dropping to Cloud County to 3-3 in the Jayhawk and 9-9 on the season. Looming on the schedule next for the Cougars will be a pivotal Saturday matchup at the Barton Gym against conference front-runner Seward County Community College. First serve against the 5-1 and 13-5 Saints slated for 2:00 p.m.

    Lydia Konrade of the Barton Community College volleyball team was named Tuesday as the KJCCC Division I Defensive Player of the Week. Digging her way to the honor, her selection marks the third straight week a Cougar was awarded following Olivia Naccarato’s offensive honor last week and Nathalia Gouveia’s defensive awarding in week two.
  • Barton Volleyball sweeps No. 20 Hutchinson

    The Barton Community College volleyball team posted their second straight sweep earning a hard fought victory Saturday at the Barton Gym over No. 20 ranked Hutchinson Community College. Featuring fourteen ties in each of the first and third sets, the Cougars scored the last two points for a 25-23 opening set victory before pulling away late in the second winning 25-18. The Cougars then wrapped up the day outscoring the Blue Dragons 6-3 down the stretch for the clinching 25-21 win in snapping an eleven match losing streak to Hutchinson. The victory moves Barton into sole possession of fourth, just one game behind the leaders at 4-2 and 15-4 on the season. The Blue Dragons fall into a three-way tie for the top spot at 4-1 while dropping to 8-5 overall. Next up for the Cougars will be a Wednesday trip to Concordia for a 6:30 p.m. first serve at Cloud County Community College before next Saturday’s 2:00 p.m. first serve against Seward County Community College.

    Two days after letting an opportunity slip through their grasp, the Barton Community College volleyball team took to task and stayed the course Wednesday night in a convincing sweep over Pratt Community College. Paddling the Beavers 25-14 in the opening set, the Cougars made short work of the night with twin 25-20 victories to snap a five match losing streak at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena. The result improves Barton to 3-2 in conference play and 14-4 on the season while dropping Pratt to 1-3 in the West and 6-10 overall. Next up for the Cougars will be a 2:00 p.m. first serve at the Barton Gym against conference favorite and No. 20 ranked Hutchinson Community College.

    Olivia Naccarato of the Barton Community College volleyball team was named Tuesday as the KJCCC Division I Player of the Week. The selection marks the second straight week a Cougar was awarded as Nathalia Gouveia was named the Defensive Player of the Week in week two.
  • Cougars blow lead, drop conference match to Colby

    The Barton Community College volleyball team looked like a team headed for a quick Monday night at the Barton Gym winning the first set but the tide turned late in the second leading to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Colby Community College. Barton took the first set 25-20 and led by six before the Trojans closed on a 10-2 spurt to win 25-23. Colby then rode the momentum to a 25-17 third and a 25-18 match clincher fourth. The Cougars drop to 2-2 in conference play and 13-4 overall while Colby improves to 4-1 in the West and 11-1 overall. Barton continues its busy stretch of matches on Wednesday traveling to Pratt Community College for a 6:30 p.m. first serve before hosting No. 20 Hutchinson Community College at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
  • Barton Volleyball solid in final day of Odessa Tournament, returns home with four victories

    The Barton Community College volleyball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday wrapping up weekend play at the Odessa College Tournament in Odessa, College. The Cougars took care of Cedar Valley College in straight sets 25-23, 25-11, and 25-22 to begin the final day before concluding the unbeaten weekend with a comeback five set victory over New Mexico Military Institute 25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 25-18, and 15-9. Leaving Texas with the four wins and improving to 13-3 on the season, Barton will continue its eight match in ten days stretch with three conference matches looming this week. Beginning and ending with home Jayhawk matches, the Cougars begin with Colby Community College on Monday, a Wednesday trip to Pratt Community College before winding up the week Saturday versus No. 20 ranked Hutchinson Community College. First serve times are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. except for Saturday’s match-up with the Blue Dragons which will begin at 2:00 p.m.

    One shouldn't judge a book by its cover nor necessarily judge a team by its first set of play as the Barton Community College volleyball team appeared headed for a couple of day one losses in Odessa, Texas, but instead rallied for a pair of victories. Now 11-3 on the season, Barton will wrap up play Saturday in the Odessa College Tournament beginning the morning with an 11:00 a.m. match versus Cedar Valley College before capping the four-match weekend at 3:00 p.m. against New Mexico Military Institute.
  • Cougars pass gut check, sweep Butler in conference action

    Rallying from big deficits in two of the three sets Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, the Barton Community College volleyball team swept Butler Community College 25-16, 25-22, and 26-24. The victories improve the Cougars to 2-1 in Jayhawk play and 9-3 overall while keeping Butler winless in conference play at 0-4 dropping to 4-5 on the season. Barton will load the bus early Thursday morning heading to Odessa, Texas, for a four-match weekend beginning on Friday in the Odessa College Tournament. The Cougars get back to conference action on Monday taking Colby Community College in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at the Barton Gym.
