  • Limited availability remaining for high school volleyball camp

    Perfect timing for players wanting to shake off the rust from their break away from volleyball and prepare for the rapidly approaching season, the Barton Community College volleyball program is offering a high school aged volleyball camp July 27-30. The camp provides a challenging four-day volleyball training experience for players ready to compete at the high school level with development of solid technical and tactical skills emphasized, as well as, games, contests and prizes awarded in a fun, competitive atmosphere. Commuter cost is $199 per camper or $299 for overnight campers.     The Barton Community College volleyball program is offering both a high school tournament and middle school camp in mid-June, as well as, an early registration cost saving deadline for the upcoming July high school volleyball camp.
  • Barton Volleyball offering Middle School Clinics

    The Barton Community College volleyball program is offering skill clinics for middle school age players on Saturday, April 16, and Saturday, April 23. Introducing a solid foundation of the fundamental skills of the game, the clinic is recommended for players wanting to learn the sport and continue development of skills. The clinic will run from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. consisting of multiple drills and games to develop individual skill proficiency and confidence. Attendance at either of the two clinics or both is welcome for $50 per participant each clinic date.     Meeting the approval of the Barton Community College Board of Trustees, Brandon Stephenson takes over the Barton volleyball program as the Cougars’ new head coach. Stephenson, a native of Kansas, is familiar with the successful history of Barton Volleyball and brings coaching experience from within the junior college ranks.
  • Former Cougar Ray Bechard leads KU Volleyball into first ever Final Four

    Captured in an exciting improbable fifth set comeback, former Barton Community College volleyball coach Ray Bechard has led the University of Kansas Volleyball team to a berth in the NCAA Championship Semifinal. Making its first ever Regional finals appearance in KU volleyball history, the No. 9 seeded Jayhawks erased a 13-9 fifth set deficit Saturday night in San Diego, California, with sixth straight points upsetting the No. 1 seeded University of Southern California Trojans 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 19-25, and 15-13. KU, now 30-2 on the season, extends its unprecedented season traveling to Omaha, Nebraska, for a final four matchup with No. 4 University of Nebraska on Thursday, December 17.

  • Barton Volleyball’s season ends in Concordia

    The Barton Community College volleyball team had their season end in the first round of the Region VI playoffs as Cloud County Community College swept the sixth seeded Lady Cougars Wednesday night in Concordia 25-9, 25-20, and 25-21. The loss winds up Barton’s season at 9-24 while the third seeded Thunderbirds improve to 22-11 advancing to the region’s final four being held Sunday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
  • Barton Volleyball concludes regular season with loss at second place Seward County

    Playing its second consecutive match against one of the top teams in the conference, the Barton Community College volleyball team came up empty again losing 25-18, 25-11, and 25-23 Thursday evening at Seward County Community College. Concluding the regular season with the loss doesn’t hurt the sixth place Cougars in the standings falling to 6-10 and 9-23 overall nor did it help the second place Lady Saints as Seward County improved to 13-3 and 24-14 on the season. Barton will begin Region VI playoff action on Wednesday as the Cougars travel to third seeded Cloud County Community College for a 6:30 p.m. first round first serve.
  • Barton Volleyball blanked at No. 20 Hutchinson

    For the second time this season the Barton Community College volleyball team simply didn’t have answers to combat No. 20 ranked Hutchinson Community College as the Blue Dragons rolled Wednesday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena 25-14, 25-16, and 25-7. The loss drops Barton to 6-9 in conference play and 9-22 overall while Hutchinson improves to 27-8 on the season and 14-1 in the Jayhawk securing their fourth straight conference championship. The Cougars will wrap up regular season play on Thursday traveling to second place Seward County Community College for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
  • Cougars rally for fifth set victory over Pratt on Sophomore Night

    The Barton Community College volleyball team rallied for a fifth set victory Wednesday night at the Barton Gym winning 16-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20, and 15-10 over Pratt Community College. Victorious in their final three home matches of the season, the Cougars sent out sophomore members of the squad with the come from behind win improving the sixth place Cougars to 6-8 in conference play and 9-21. Pratt, who is in a battle for a home first round match in the approaching region tournament, slipped to fifth place at 8-6 and 17-15 overall. Barton will wrap up regular season play next week against the top two Jayhawk teams beginning with No. 19 ranked Hutchinson Community College on Tuesday followed by a Thursday road trip to Liberal closing out the schedule at Seward County Community College. First serve for both contests slated for 6:30 p.m.
  • Cougar volleyball win streak snapped at Colby

    Having swept their previous two opponents, the Barton Community College volleyball team got a dose of their own medicine as the Cougars were swept Saturday at Colby Community College 25-6, 25-22, and 25-23. The loss drops Barton to 5-8 in the Jayhawk and 8-21 overall while Colby keeps pace for a top four Jayhawk finish improving to 8-5 and 12-17. The Cougars will play their final home match of the season this coming Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. first serve versus Pratt Community College.

    The Barton Community College volleyball team served its way to its second consecutive sweep at the Barton Gym winning 25-15, 25-16, and 25-14 over Butler Community College. The victory improves Barton to 5-7 in the Jayhawk and 8-20 overall while Butler drops to 2-11 in conference and 4-25 on the season. The Cougars travel to Colby Community College on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. first serve before their final home match next Wednesday.

    Hitting a season high attack percentage the Barton Community College volleyball team hammered Dodge City Community College in straight sets Wednesday evening at the Barton Gym 25-13, 25-21, and 25-17. The victory improves Barton to 4-7 in the Jayhawk and 7-20 overall while Dodge City drops to 1-9 in conference and 3-22 on the season. The Cougars will have a week away from completion until next Wednesday as Butler Community College comes to the Barton Gym for a 6:30 p.m. conference first serve.
  • Cougars taken down in three to Highland

    For the second straight home match the Barton Community College volleyball team couldn’t score points late as the Cougars lost 3-0 to Highland Community College Monday evening at the Barton Gym. The Cougars hung with the Scotties for most of each set but failed to stay strong down the stretch and string points together in dropping consecutive sets 25-13, 25-20, and 25-22. The non-conference loss drops Barton to 6-20 on the season while Highland’s season mark improves to 14-6. The Cougars have short time to regroup as Barton hosts Dodge City Community College on Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. conference match at the Barton Gym.
  • Cougar Volleyball opens homestand with loss to Cloud County

    The Barton Community College volleyball team took it on the chin Saturday at the Barton Gym dropping consecutive sets to Cloud County Community College 25-2-, 25-22, and 25-16. The loss drops Barton to 3-7 in Jayhawk conference play and 6-19 overall while Cloud County improves to 7-3 winning their third straight moving to 13-7. The Cougars will play the second of a four match homestand on Monday as Highland Community College comes to the Barton Gym for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
  • Responding to the challenge, Barton Volleyball rallies for victory at Garden City to begin second half of conference season

    The Barton Community College volleyball team began the second half of the conference season much like it began, a victory over Garden City Community College. Unlike the four set victory the Cougars enjoyed back at the Barton Gym in late August, Barton needed a rally Wednesday night at the Dennis Perryman Center hammering the Broncbusters 25-15 in the opener but dropping the next two 19-25 and 21-15. With their backs to the wall the Cougars responded taking the fourth 25-20 then broke away in the latter half of the fifth winning 15-8. The victory improves Barton to 3-6 in Jayhawk conference play and 6-18 overall while Garden City drops their thirteenth straight falling to 1-8 in conference and 1-24 on the season. Getting the fifteen match losing streak monkey off their backs, the Cougars will look to carry the momentum to avenge an earlier loss to Cloud County Community College welcoming the T-birds to the Barton Gym on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. first serve.
  • Cougars falter late, drop three setter to Seward County

    The Barton Community College volleyball team built momentum too little too late Monday night at the Barton Gym dropping consecutive sets to Seward County Community College. The Saints rallied to take the first set 25-20 before hammering Barton 25-12 in the second set topped with another rally for the match clinching 25-21 third. The Cougars fall to 2-6 in conference play and 5-18 on the season while Seward County keeps pace in the Jayhawk West at 7-1 winning their ninth straight match improving to 16-7 on the season. Barton’s next match and opportunity to snap its fifteen match slide will come Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at Garden City Community College.
  • Ranked opponents take down Cougar Volleyball at Johnson County Challenge

    Coming off a Wednesday defeat to the No. 5 ranked Division I team in the country, the Barton Community College volleyball team didn’t get much relief from national caliber competition this weekend as the Cougars dropped all four matches to Division II nationally ranked opponents in the Johnson County Challenge in Overland Park, Kansas. The weekend results drops Barton to 5-17 on the season heading into Monday evening’s 6:30 p.m. conference match versus Seward County Community College at the Barton Gym.
  • Cougars can’t extinguish Blue Dragon fire, fall in three to No. 5 Hutchinson

    The Barton Community College volleyball team was little resistance to the defending conference champions Hutchinson Community College as the No. 5 ranked Blue Dragons rolled to a three set sweep Wednesday night at the Barton Gym. Hutchinson used a couple of four-point stretches to capture the first set 25-12, a mid-set six-of-seven point stretch grabbing command for a 25-18 win, then ran away with the third 25-9 after rattling off a nine and then eight point streak. The loss drops Barton to 2-5 in conference play and tenth straight falling to 5-13 while the Blue Dragons win their 28th straight Jayhawk West contest improving to 7-0 and 14-1 overall.
  • Cougar Volleyball falls in three at Cloud County

    Trying to erase the memories of a tough loss on Wednesday, a Saturday trip to Concordia didn’t provide the relief the Barton Community College volleyball team was looking for as the Cougars were swept 25-17, 25-22, and 25-18 at Cloud County Community College. The loss drops the Cougars to 2-4 in conference play and 5-12 overall while Cloud County improves to 3-2 and 9-6 on the season. The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Cougars trying to break a nine-game slide as No. 7 ranked Hutchinson Community College comes to the Barton Gym on Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
  • Improbable fifth set dooms Barton Volleyball in loss to Colby

    Match point with a five point lead wasn’t enough Wednesday at the Barton Gym as the Barton Community College volleyball team’s grasp of victory was snatched away by an improbable Colby Community College comeback. The Cougars took the first and third set 25-22 and 26-24, with Colby answering the call taking the second and fourth 25-18 and 25-22 forcing a decisive fifth where the Trojans rallied from a five-point 14-9 deficit scoring seven straight points to win 16-14. Barton slips to 2-3 in conference play dropping their eighth straight match falling to 5-11 while Colby’s third straight win improves the Trojans to 3-2 and 6-7 overall. The road to recovery for the Cougars begins Saturday in Concordia as Barton takes on Cloud County Community College in a 2:00 p.m. first serve at Bryant Gymnasium.

    Stepping out of conference play for the weekend, the Barton Community College volleyball team took four matches on the chin going 0-4 at the Pizza Hut Invitational in Sterling, Colorado. The losses drop the Cougars to 5-10 on the season as Barton returns to conference play this Wednesday looking to snap a seven match losing streak. In a battle of 2-2 conference teams, Barton will host the 5-7 Colby Community College Trojans in a 6:30 p.m. match at the Barton Gym.
  • Cougar Volleyball rally falls short at Butler

    The Barton Community College volleyball team’s rally fell short Wednesday night at the Power Plant in El Dorado as the Cougars lost 3-2 at Butler Community College. The Grizzlies took the first and third set 25-16 and 25-20, with the Cougars rallying to take the second and fourth 25-14 and 25-19 forcing a decisive fifth. Unfortunately for the Cougars, consecutive late errors provided the doom on the short end of a 15-13 decision. The loss sends Barton to its third straight defeat dropping to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play while Butler picks up their first conference victory improving to 1-2 and 3-8 on the season. Next up for the Cougars will be a tough weekend trip to Sterling, Colorado, for the Pizza Hut Invitational featuring two top four opponents and two receiving national poll considerations.
  • Cougar Volleyball handed first conference loss, fall in three at Pratt

    The Barton Community College volleyball team lost their first conference match Monday suffering a 3-0 defeat at Pratt Community College. The Beavers took the first set 25-14 to awaken the Cougars for the second set, but Pratt held off the charge to win 25-23 then squelched any Barton momentum dismantling the Cougars 25-12 in the third to sweep the match. The loss drops Barton to 5-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play while Pratt stays atop the conference standings unblemished at 3-0 while improving to 8-3 overall. The Cougars will stay in conference play traveling to Butler Community College on Wednesday before traveling to Sterling, Colorado, for a weekend classic. Wednesday’s match time at the Power Plant in El Dorado is set for 6:30 p.m.
  • Streak comes to an end, Barton Volleyball falls 3-1 to Ottawa

    The Barton Community College volleyball team had its five-game winning streak snapped Thursday night at the Barton Gym as the Cougars fell 3-1 to an experienced Ottawa University JV squad. The Braves, who brought five juniors and a senior, took the first set 25-18 but the Cougars rebounded to even the match with a 25-19 win. Breaking a thirteen all tie, Ottawa built a three point lead then held off the Cougars for a 25-21 win then led for most of the decisive fourth to snap Barton’s win streak with the match clinching 25-18 victory. Barton slips to 5-4 on the season while Ottawa improves to 2-1. The Cougars will take the weekend off before resuming conference play on Monday as Barton travels to Pratt Community College for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
  • Barton Volleyball wins 5th straight with conference victory at Dodge City

    The Barton Community College volleyball team picked up their fifth straight victory as the Cougars rolled to a 3-1 win tonight at Dodge City Community College. The Cougars took the first two sets with identical 25-20 scores, falling in the third 25-20, then ran away with the victory behind a 15-0 run capturing the match with the 25-4 pounding. Barton improves to 5-3 on the season and open conference play at 2-0 while Dodge City drops to 2-8 and 0-1 in the Jayhawk. The Cougars will have a quick turnaround hitting the court again on Thursday hosting the junior varsity squad from Ottawa University in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at the Barton Gym.
  • Cougars jump above .500 with another non-conference sweep

    For the first time since the 2011 season, the Barton Community College volleyball team rose above .500 with a non-conference sweep Monday night at the Barton Gym over the junior varsity squad from Sterling College. The Cougars improved to 4-3 on the season taking the three sets 25-18, 25-20, and 25-21. Barton will hit the road for its next match returning to conference play at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dodge City Community College before hosting another non-conference match Thursday against Ottawa University JV.
  • Barton Volleyball gets Saturday sweep to even season mark

    The Barton Community College volleyball team made short work of the day sweeping the junior varsity squad from Bethany College 25-22, 25-11, and 25-21 Saturday at the Barton Gym. The victory improves the Cougars to 3-3 on the season heading into Monday’s 6:30 p.m. match against the junior varsity of Sterling College at the Barton Gym. The Cougars will then hit the road Wednesday taking on Dodge City Community College in Dodge City before hosting another non-conference match Thursday against Ottawa University JV.
  • Cougar Volleyball opens homestand with conference win over Garden City

    The Barton Community College volleyball team opened up a three game homestand Wednesday night at the Barton Gym with a 3-1 victory over Garden City Community College. The Cougars dropped the first set 23-25 but regrouped to take the next three 25-20, 25-17, and 25-23 to keep its historical record against the Busters unblemished at 32-0. The conference opener victory improves Barton to 2-3 while Garden City drops its first conference match of the season and remains winless on the season at 0-5. Barton will step out of conference play for its next two matches hosting Kansas Wesleyan University JV on Saturday in a 12:00 p.m. first serve then two days later host the junior varsity squad from Sterling College on Monday in a normal 6:30 p.m. start.
