The Barton Community College Volleyball team wrapped up their four-match Barton Gym homestand Wednesday night picking up their first conference victory of the season defeating Garden City Community College 25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18.  The Cougars improve to 2-6 on the season and even their conference mark at 1-1 while Garden City drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Barton took an early lead to begin the night and coasted for the six point first set victory.  The Cougars went on to build an eight point lead at 18-10 in the second, only to have Garden City respond with a 10-5 run to cut the deficit to three.   Coupled with ten errors, the Cougars were unable to slow the Busters' momentum as Garden City completed the comeback 26-24.

As with each set throughout the night, Barton got off to another good start in the fourth but a 5-2 run by the Busters flipped the scoreboard for a two point Garden City lead.  After being tied at 17, the Cougars used a 5-2 stretch to assume command then held Garden City scoreless the rest of the way to take a 2-1 match lead.

Breaking a 5-all tie in the fourth, Barton gained separation with a 8-2 run eventually stretching the lead out to six with a 18-11 advantage.  The gap was too large for another Buster comeback from that point as the Cougars held the lead for the deciding set win. Jordan Edelman had her best match as a Cougar as the Wichita South freshman knoked down ten kills with a .500 attack percentage as three hitters finished the night with 10-plus kills.  Redshirt freshman Kim Hockley hit at a .429 clip tying sophomore Tahje Ochs with team high honors with 11 kills each.

Getting a double-double 11 kill 29 dig performance in Barton's win last Friday, Ochs posted her second career double-double performance with 12 digs to go along with her 11 kills.  Sophomore Mykela Riedl posted her eighth straight double-digit dig performance to lead the Cougars with 18.

The Cougars will visit life on the road for the next twenty-one days beginning next Monday in a 6:30 p.m. conference match at Pratt Community College.  Barton's next home match is Wednesday, September 24, against Marshalltown Community College.
