  • Beginner skills volleyball camp offered June 15-16; Position Specific Training also offered this week

    Beginner skills volleyball camp is next up of the variety of age and grade level camps offered in June by the Barton Community College volleyball program. Monday will be the first of two days of the two day Beginner Skills Camp running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day at the Barton Gym. This skill camp is a terrific two day experience introducing a solid foundation to the fundamental skills of the game and open to participants typically entering grades 4-6. The Beginner Skills Camp will include a lot of drills and games to develop individual skill proficiency and confidence and serves as a great introduction to the Intermediate Skills Camp coming up June 22-24. Cost for the Beginner Skills Camp is $100 per person with camp t-shirt provided.
  • Barton Volleyball camps and leagues offered throughout June

    The Barton Community College volleyball program is offering volleyball skill camps and leagues during the month of June. Featuring three levels of instructional camps, position specific training will also be offered in addition to three levels of leagues throughout the month of June beginning Monday June 1st. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited for each camp and league.   • Barton Volleyball inks seven Kansas players for 2015 season

    The Barton Community College volleyball program announces the signing of seven incoming Kansas freshman to its 2015 class of Lady Cougars. With additional signees to be announced at a later date, the seven compliment the return of four players from last year’s squad of second year Head Coach Phil Shoemaker.
  • Barton’s Friesen earns 2nd Team post season award

    Barton Community College volleyball sophomore Casey Friesen was recently selected to the All-Jayhawk West/All-Region VI Division I second team. The only Barton played for post season honors, Friesen was the primary setter throughout the season recording thirteen double-doubles. The Pflugerville, Texas, native led the Cougars with 5.03 assists per set, 659 total assists, a .234 attack percentage, while also ranking third on the team with 2.5 digs per set.
  • Cougar Volleyball season comes to end in Region VI

    The Barton Community College volleyball team had their season end Sunday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena as Colby Community College took three of four sets to advance in the Region VI semifinal round. The Cougars took the first set 26-24 but Colby won the next three 25-18, 25-16, and 25-15 to bounce Barton from the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Barton finishes the season at 7-26 while Colby improved to 17-18 advancing to the semifinal round of the Region VI Championships.
  • Barton Volleyball ends regular season with loss at Hutch

    The Barton Community College volleyball team ran across a formidable wall Thursday night as the Cougars lost in straight sets at Hutchinson Community College 25-16, 25-15, and 20-25. Barton ends the regular season at 5-11 in conference play and 7-25 on the season while Jayhawk champion Hutchinson finishes the conference unblemished at 16-0 and improved to 24-12 overall.
  • Barton Volleyball rally falls short in fifth set loss at Colby

    Last season the Barton Community College volleyball team knocked off the front running Colby Community College team on the Trojans’ home floor in the season finale. Tuesday night on the same floor the Trojans would not succumb to the Cougars’ upset bid winning taking this year’s home finale 3-2. Colby took a two set lead winning 25-21 and 26-24 before the Cougars took the third 25-18 and dominated the fourth 25-11 to set up an exciting fifth set where the Trojans scored the six of the last seven points to earn the 15-12 win. The loss was the seventh in nine fifth set matches for the Cougars this season as Barton drops to 5-10 in the Jayhawk and 7-24 overall while Colby improves to 11-5 and 16-18. Barton will wrap up the regular season on Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. first serve at conference champion Hutchinson Community College.
  • Barton Volleyball comes up short in final home match

    The Barton Community College volleyball team wrapped up home match play Friday night with a disappointing loss to Butler Community College. In what would be the last game in the Barton Gym for nine Lady Cougars, Butler took the first set 25-17 before the Cougars evened the match with a 25-22 win. On a night little went in the favor of the Cougars offensively or defensively, Butler closed out the match with 25-17 and 25-23 victories. The loss dropped Barton to 5-9 in conference and 7-23 overall while Butler improved to 4-10 and 11-19.
  • Win looks good for Barton Volleyball in 3-1 defeat of Dodge City

    Having lost consecutive five-set matches last week, the Barton Community College volleyball team will take any win it can earn as the Cougars defeated Dodge City Community College Monday night at the Barton Gym 25-19, 25-27, 25-19, 25-21. The Cougars hit a season low .124 efficiency in a win but countered with nineteen blocks and seventy-seven digs to snap the two-game losing streak. The victory, the ninth consecutive against the Conquistadors, improves the Cougars’ Jayhawk mark to 5-8 and 7-22 overall while keeping Dodge City winless in conference at 0-13 and 4-28 on the season.
  • Cougar Volleyball suffers consecutive five set loss

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team almost pulled off another upset Saturday afternoon at the Barton Gym but failed to protect a two match lead in falling in five sets to Cloud County Community College. With the bitter taste of a near upset having slipped away three days prior to Pratt Community College, the Cougars took a two set lead behind consecutive 26-24 wins. On the verge of sweeping and revenging a straight set loss to the T-Birds in September, Barton squandered a four point mid-set lead in the third to fall 25-23 and never recovered in dropping the next two 25-17 and 15-13. The loss drops Barton to 4-8 in conference play and 6-22 on the season while Cloud County won its fourth straight to stay in a three-way tie for second place in the Jayhawk standings at 8-4 and improving to 16-6 overall.
  • Cougar comeback comes up short in five set loss to Pratt

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team almost pulled off the upset Wednesday night at the Barton Gym but the Pratt Community College Beavers held off the Cougars’ comeback to win in five sets 7-25, 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, and 15-8. The loss drops Barton to 4-7 in conference play and 6-21 on the season while Pratt solidifies their second place Jayhawk standing improving to 8-4 and 20-8 overall.
  • Cougar Volleyball takes four set win at Garden City

    Snapping a four match losing streak, the Barton Community College Volleyball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon earning a four set victory at Garden City Community College 25-16, 12-25, 25-15, and 26-24. The Cougars improve to 4-6 in conference play and 6-20 on the season while Garden City falls to 3-8 in the Jayhawk and 8-17 overall.
  • Slow starts doom Cougar Volleyball in Liberal

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team buried itself in early deficits Wednesday night in Liberal to fall in straight sets at Seward County Community College 25-14, 25-19, and 25-20. The Cougars were outscored 30-13 in the combined three sets’ race to ten points leading to Barton having to battle from behind all evening. The fourth straight loss drops Barton to 3-6 in conference play and 5-20 overall while Seward County solidifies their standing in the top four of the Jayhawk improving to 6-4 and 18-12 overall.
  • Cougars fall to conference leading Blue Dragons

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team woke No. 18 ranked Hutchinson Community College with a first set victory Saturday afternoon at the Barton Gym, but the conference leading Blue Dragons were too much in pulling away with the 3-1 victory. The Cougars took the first set 25-22 but Hutchinson dominated the next three winning 25-15, 25-19, and 25-15. The loss drops the Cougars to 3-5 in conference play and 5-19 overall while Hutchinson remains unbeaten in the Jayhawk at 8-0 and 14-6 overall.
  • Barton Volleyball struggles in home loss to Colby

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team struggled Wednesday night and the Colby Community College Trojans capitalized in the 25-17, 25-19, and 25-22 conference win. Marking only the second loss to the Trojans at the Barton Gym since 2000, Barton falls to 5-18 on the season and 3-4 in conference play while Colby improves to 9-13 and 5-3 in the Jayhawk.
  • Third time not the charm for Cougar Volleyball in loss at Cowley College

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team was looking for a little revenge Monday night at Cowley College but the Division II No. 11 Tigers swept the non-conference action at the W.S. Scott Auditorium 25-12, 25-20, and 25-19. The loss drops Barton to 5-17 and snapped a two-game match win streak while Cowley in their third defeat of the Cougars this season improves to 15-6.
  • Quick start leads Cougar Volleyball to short work of Marshalltown

    Less than twenty-four hours from a five-set comeback victory at Butler Community College, the Barton Community College volleyball team showed little hangover from the big road conference win in cruising to a three set sweep over Marshalltown Community College 25-14, 25-15, and 25-20. The Cougars got off to commanding leads in each set Wednesday night at the Barton Gym to improve to 5-16 on the season while Marshalltown falls to 7-11. Playing seven matches in six days, Barton will have a much needed break before traveling to Arkansas City on Monday, September 29, to take on Division II No. 10 ranked Cowley College.
  • Cougar Volleyball rallies for 5th set win at Butler

    The Barton Community College volleyball team took a big step in a positive direction Tuesday night at the Power Plant as the Cougars won a five-set thriller over Butler Community College 10-25, 25-13, 13-25, 25-19, and 15-13. Playing their third five-setter in the last five matches, the Cougars’ rally from the 2-1 set deficit snapped a four match slide. Barton improves to 4-16 on the season but more importantly improves to 3-3 in conference play while Butler slips to 1-4 and 7-10 overall. Barton will have a quick turnaround for its next match as the Cougars will step out of conference play on Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. match at the Barton Gym against Marshalltown Community College.
  • Cougar Volleyball comes up short at Wyo-Braska Tourney

    Playing out of state has not been kind for the Barton Community College volleyball team as the Cougars dropped four matches at the Wyo-Braska Tournament. Barton limps home with a 3-16 record on the season after going 0-12 in three out-of-state tournaments this season. The Cougars, 2-3 in conference play, will wrap up its 21-day away schedule on Tuesday in El Dorado, Kansas, in a 6:30 p.m. conference match against the 1-3 and 7-8 Butler Community College Grizzlies. Barton will return to the friendly confines of the Barton Gym on Wednesday in a non-conference match with Marshalltown Community College.
  • Barton Volleyball takes four-set victory at Dodge City

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team picked up a much needed conference win Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over host Dodge City Community College. The Cougars won the first sets 25-18 and 25-8 only to have the Conquistadors scrap out a highly contested third set 28-26. Barton quickly shook off the loss to race out to an early lead in the fourth then outscore the Conquistadors 11-1 down the stretch for a 25-8 match clinching win. The victory improved the Cougars to 2-3 in Jayhawk play and 3-12 overall while keeping Dodge City winless in conference play at 0-5 and dropping to 4-13 overall.
  • Improving Barton Volleyball drops four tough matches in Colorado

    Being close only counts in a few sports and unfortunately for the Barton Community College volleyball team, close doesn’t account for wins in volleyball as the Cougars dropped four matches this weekend at the Pizza Hut Invitational hosted by Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO. The losses drop Barton to a deceiving 2-12 on the season as the Cougars continue to battle strong competition in the non-conference portions of the schedule. Barton returns to conference play on Wednesday as the 1-3 Cougars travel to Dodge City, Kansas, for a 6:30 p.m. match against the 0-3 and 4-11 Dodge City Community College Conquistadors.
  • Road not kind for Cougars, drop second straight conference match

    Life away from the Barton Gym is not proving kind to the Barton Community College volleyball team as the Cougars went to Concordia, Kansas, Wednesday night falling 30-28, 25-13, and 25-14 to Cloud County Community College. Dropping their second straight three-set road conference match, Barton falls to 1-3 in conference play and 2-8 overall while Cloud County improves to 2-1 in Jayhawk play and 8-3 on the season.

    The Barton Community College volleyball team lost a three-set conference match Monday night at Pratt Community College 25-18, 25-20, 25-15. The loss drops the Cougars to 1-2 in conference play and 2-7 overall while Pratt improves to 3-0 and 12-3. Barton's next match will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as the Cougars travel to Cloud County Community College.

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team wrapped up their four-match Barton Gym homestand Wednesday night picking up their first conference victory of the season defeating Garden City Community College 25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18. The Cougars improve to 2-6 on the season and even their conference mark at 1-1 while Garden City drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
  • Barton Volleyball split consecutive home matches

    Getting their first win of the season on Friday, the Barton Community College Volleyball team came up short for an upset victory in settling for a split of consecutive matches. The Cougars picked up their first victory of the season in dramatic fashion with a come-from-behind fifth set victory over the junior varsity squad from Friends University on Friday returning to fall in four sets Saturday to Division II No. 2 ranked Cowley College.
  • Cougars drop home opener in four to Seward County

    The Barton Community College Volleyball team opened the 2014 home season Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, losing in four sets to Seward County Community College. In the Jayhawk Conference opener for both teams, the undefeated Saints controlled most of the match in capturing 25-16, 17-25, 25-16, and 25-19 set victories to win the match 3-1. The loss drops Barton to 0-5 to start the season while Seward County improves to 5-0.
  • Barton Volleyball drops four in Iowa to open season

    The Barton Community College volleyball team found the trip to Iowa this past weekend to be rough going as the Cougars dropped all four matches of the Reiver Classic hosted by Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
