Hamilton climbs program chart highlighting Barton track and field at Alex Francis Classic #GoBarton

The Barton track and field squads competed Wednesday in the Alex Francis Classic hosted by Fort Hays State University in final meet preparation for the upcoming Region VI Championships.

Overall, the 3rd ranked women's squad added five to its national qualifying list in highlighting the two squads combined thirteen personal and/or season bests as the program won six events of the one-day meet.

Barton's next action will be May 2-4 in the KJCCC/Region VI Championships held at the Green Sports Complex in Pratt.

The women had two impacts on the program record book, Treneese Hamilton making the largest movement by moving up three spots on the shot put chart posting a meet winning 16.28m (53-05.00) mark to fall just 7" of the school record. Ana Couto's season best 12.04m (39-06.00) place 4th while Kyndall Blessing's first time in the event finished 12th at 9.94m (32-07.50).

Hamilton would also reach national qualifying distance in the discus on a personal best 41.59m (136-05) mark in placing 6th overall. Freshman Ivanilda Semedo won the event with a personal best effort, raising the distance to solidify her already program second best and NJCAA's 5th all-time mark to 55.91m (183-05).

The Cougars' throwing trio also came away with good marks in the hammer throw, Hamilton increasing her national qualifying mark to 47.63m (156-03) with Semedo and Blessing reaching qualifying standards on 45.34m (148-09) and 44.54m (146-01) marks respectively.

Additional personal bests and national qualifiers were: Maria Umoibang winning the 100m in 11.75, Jazmine Williamson's runner-up triple jump on a personal best 11.87m (38-11.50).

On the 6th ranked men's side, the Cougars posted four personal bests efforts led by Bryce Southerland's 110m hurdle time bettering his national qualifying time to 14.47.

The program's all-time third best discus thrower Christopher Young won the Francis Classic with a 58.98m (193-06) mark and increased his national qualifying mark in the hammer with a runner-up 53.21m (174-07) distance. Ricardo Hayles and Justin Barker each reached personal bests, Hayles placing 9th at 39.92m (131-00) with Barker in 16th at 30.27m (99-04).

Hayles also posted a an event winning personal best in the shot put, increasing his national qualifying mark to 16.24m (53-03.50) as Boris Peranovic's personal furthest reached 13.65m (44-09.50) in placing 5th.
