Hamilton and Hassnaoui make program impacts leading 2nd ranked Barton women at New Mexico Team Open #GoBarton

Barton women's track and field results at 2024 New Mexico Team Open

Treneese Hamilton and Sanae Hassnaoui headlined the nations' 2nd ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team performances this weekend at the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque.

Overall the Cougars had six personal or season bests during the two-day meet and added two additional national qualifying tickets bringing their season total to seventeen.

Hassnaoui, the reigning national female athlete of the week, continued to shine in her third week of collegiate competition by recording the program's 5th fastest time ever of 2:10.02 in placing 3rd against four-year level competitors.

Hamilton continues her progression in her sophomore season to jump into the program's 8th slot of the weight throw with a 16.84m (55-03.00) mark. The distance knocked teammate freshman Cedricka Williams out of the spot by a mere .25 of an inch as the duo wrapped up punching their national tickets last week.

Not to be overshadowed was the short track performances of Keliza Smith as the freshman set a pair of personal bests on the weekend while adding another national meet entry. Already qualified in the 60m, Smith bettered her time in clocking a nation's fourth best 7.54 stoppage while adding the 200m to her credentials with a 24.27 to record the 3rd fastest current national time.

Along with Hassnaoui in the 800m distance, Shone Walters' first attempt in the event produced national qualifying 2:19.19 time in currently ranking 13th overall.

The Cougars' next meet heads the opposite direction with a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska, on Friday for the two-day annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
*Update: Barton will not be attending the Husker Invite. The Cougars will instead compete at the Washburn Open and Multis beginning on Friday in Topeka, KS.
