Barton track and field's Green earns week four conference honor #GoBarton

Barton women's track and field Kayan Green, Week 4 KJCCC Track Athlete of the Week

Kayan Green of the Barton Community College women's track and field team has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Week Four Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

The Cougars' Sunday results at the KJCCC/Region VI Invite at Pittsburg State's Plaster Center resulted in seven additional national qualifying and 13 personal best performances.

Shining amongst the results was Green, running the 1000m for the first time and clocking a 2:57.42 time to win the event by over thirteen seconds. The time also jumped Green to the top of the current NJCAA performances by three seconds while 7th all-time best on the storied program's historical list.

Green also later ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay team helping the Cougars to take over another of the nation's top spot. Teaming with leadoff Naiya Morgan, Lashanna Graham, and Ashantae Harvey, the tandem passed the baton to a 3:46.21 time to better New Mexico Junior College's 3:47.09.

The weekly award is the second for the program of the 2022 indoor season as Kelsie Murrell-Ross won the honor in week two after a launching a nation leading 13.86m (45-05.75) shot put mark, a distance she bettered the following week with a 15.04m (49-04.25) thump in the sand.

Green and the Cougars will next head to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for its next event February 11-12, competing in the Tyson Invitational.
