Barton women's soccer player Fiona Jolly battles with KCK's Payton Rayos

The 8th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team passed another test in the rugged KJCCC on Saturday afternoon by winning 2-1 over 17th ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College.

The victory keeps Barton unbeaten against three ranked opponents in the early season, improving to 3-0-1 in conference play and on the season. KCK takes its first loss in dropping to 3-1-1 in league and 4-1-1 overall.

Barton's grueling schedule keeps rolling with another pair of nationally ranked teams coming up beginning on Wednesday in a 6:00 p.m. kick at No. 16 Hutchinson Community College. The Cougars will then return home on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. hosting of No. 18 Cowley College.

Saturday the teams played to a 1-1 halftime gridlock in matching goals within four minutes of each other.

Aya Saiki put the Cougars out front at the 25:11 mark, ringing the bell for the third time of the year in sending a 19-yard missile to the far post.

KCK quickly countered at the 28:45 mark as Jaycee Schumann's through ball found Mia Hurt slipping through the defense in netting the equalizer.

In a well played overall game between the two squads, Barton held a small 9-6 shot advantage in first half play with a 3-2 strike between the pipe edge but couldn't produce the go-ahead before halftime.

With each team launching seven shots in the final forty-five minutes, the game winner would come nine minutes after the halftime break as an uncleared Blue Devil ball found the foot of Fiona Jolly. Settling from just outside the eighteen, Jolly sent a chipped strike upper-90 for her first collegiate goal and eventual game winner.

Mio Tanaka picked up the win improving to 3-0-1 on the year behind three saves whitle Karli Angle took the KCK loss on five saves.
