Barton women battle with Hutchinson for 1-1 soccer draw #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's soccer team and the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons battled to a 1-1 draw Monday afternoon in the home opener at Cougar Field.

Barton slips to 1-0-1 on the year with Hutchinson's record improving to 0-1-1.

The Cougars next action is Thursday hosting Southeast Community College in a 2:00 p.m. kick-off at Cougar Field.

Hutchinson scored their lone goal in the waning seconds of the first half as a Marah Franke corner kick caromed out to the eighteen where Ella-Mae Miller's through ball found Chiara Stuenkel on the back post with 37 seconds remaining.

Barton got the equalizer with 17 minutes remaining on Dahien Cabrera's corner kick had eyes through the traffic in the box to find the far post for her first collegiate goal.

A 25-30mph south wind played a factor on both ends of the field with Hutchinson nearly getting the game winner with 15:30 remaining but the gusty wind curved the grounding ball just wide of the post.

The Blue Dragons won the toss in taking advantage of the wind for the first golden goal ten minutes of extra time, getting an early corner kick opportunity but missed on a header over the cross bar.

Barton held firm in the period with eyes on the second period wind advantage, but it was the Blue Dragons who possessed most of the final frame including two corner kicks while holding the Cougars to zero shots.

Nia Baker turned back five shots on frame with Hutchinson's Kambrian Colborn protecting the net on six saves.

The Cougars outshot the Blue Dragons 25-17, with 20 of the shots coming in the 2nd period with the wind at their back. Hutchinson accumulated 13 shots with the wind, six coming in the first overtime period.
