The Barton Community College women's soccer team punched its ticket to Texas with a 2-1 victory over Johnson County Community College in the second round of the Region VI playoffs Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Barton improves to 15-3-1 on the year while ending the season of the Cavaliers at 11-7-2. The Cougars will next travel to Cleburne, Texas, for the Plains District Championship with Friday semifinal action against the five-time Region V winner and nationally receiving votes Hill College (12-1-0).

Laura Maria put Barton on the board first with a 20-yard strike against the 10-15mph south wind for the freshman from Brazil's 21st goal of the season, moving into a tie for the eighth best single season performance in program history.

The Cougars looked to be getting to halftime with the lead in front of keeper Reyna Gonzalez coming up with three saves including a 1v1 rejection with nine minutes remaining. Kayla Brashear had other plans out dueling the Barton defense to strike across the box to far post giving Johnson County new life with 52 seconds left in the half.

Less than ten minutes into the second frame, Laura Maria was tripped up in the box resulting in a penalty kick where Larissa Fagundes stepped up to rattle the nets for the 18th time of the season. The goal brought the sophomore from Brazil's two year total to thirty-three for eighth best all-time.
