Lady Cougar soccer closes out home field with 7-1 victory over Pratt #GoBarton

Women's soccer team after sophomore recognition

The Barton Community College women's soccer team launched a season high forty-one shots Saturday in a 7-1 victory over Pratt Community College. Playing their final home game of the season, the Lady Cougars peppered the frame with thirty-two shots in distributing scoring between seven different players, utilizing a strong north wind for three first half goals before tacking on another four in the final forty-five. The victory keeps the Lady Cougars in command of their playoff lives with a fourth place region standing of 7-4-2 and 8-5-3 on the year as Pratt ends the season at 2-12 in Region VI play and 2-15 overall. Barton will concluded the regular season with postseason play on the line as the Lady Cougars travel to Goodland, Kansas, on Monday for a 3:00 p.m. (CT) Monday kick-off at third place Northwest Kansas Technical College in a rematch of last Wednesday's 5-2 Barton victory at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Behind a sustained 25mph north wind gusting at times to 40mph, Barton took advantage with twenty-one shots with twelve on frame but could only get three to rattle the net. Tressa Becker got the scoring started 8:18 into the contest taking Johanna Behrens' throw-in to launch a 19-yard shot top shelf goal for her fourth of the season.

Twenty-five minutes would click off the clock before Barton could get its second goal as the howling north wind helped propel Kirsty Ashworth's 48-yard free kick over the Pratt defense in taking a high hop over goalkeeper Brittany Smith's reach. A perfectly places Larissa Fagundes through ball to Jessica Simental closed out the first half scoring as the El Paso freshman struck far post with 2:53 before half.

Fifteen minutes into second half place, the Lady Cougars launched a barrage of shots against the wind resulting in three goals in less than seven minutes. Ariadna Ramirez distributed her third assist of the season with a through ball leading to Fagundes' team leading fourteenth goal of the year. Two minutes later after receiving a Raley Mantz through ball, Shanai Jackson-Brown joined Ashworth in scoring in their Cougar Field finale as the fellow England native rebounded her own shot to blast past Smith to the near post. Behrens, who along with Fagundes put up a three-point day, netted her second of the year on a freaky into the wind chip-shot chasing Smith into goal to bat the ball back into play pushing the Barton lead to 6-0 mid-way through the half.

Following the bouncing ball before controlling and weaving through the Pratt defense, Priscilla Munoz registered her first collegiate goal striking near post for the final Lady Cougar goal with just under fifteen minutes left on the clock.

Pratt broke up Barton's bid for its eighth shutout of the season with 12:11 remaining as Veronica Hernandez' nifty through ball found Cala Jamison breaking through the defense to beat Raquelle Hardin to the near bottom post.
