Capalbo's clutch saves land KJCCC award

Capalbo's clutch saves land KJCCC award

Preserving two victories last week for the Barton Community College women's soccer team, freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Capalbo was named the KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week.

Although the statistics don't really show what impact the freshman net tender had, the quality of saves played a big part in a 3-2 win over Garden City Community College and the 4-2 victory over Hesston College on Thursday.  Turning back seven shots in Monday's critical game against Garden City, none came any larger than two leaping deflections in the closing minutes preserving the one goal margin.  Capalbo followed that performance with a pair of net savers on Thursday keeping Hesston from assuming any momentum in helping Barton draw to within one of the Larks for second place in the region at 6-4 while improving to 7-5-1 on the year.

With just two regular season games left on the schedule, Barton is in position of an outside shot of moving up to the second seed and a first round home game for the region playoffs.  The Lady Cougars begin their final week with a Wednesday trip to Dodge City Community College for a pivotal 5:00 p.m. game before a Saturday contest against Northwest Kansas Technical College to wrap up regular season play.
