Schofield with historic day leads Barton women's soccer to 9-0 victory at Pratt

Maddison Schofield of the Barton Community College women's soccer team broke loose for five goals powering the Lady Cougars to a 9-0 victory Saturday at Pratt Community College.  The Lady Cougars scored two in the first five minutes building a four goal lead going to the break before tacking on five more in the second half to outscore the Beavers 16-0 in the season series.  The win improved Barton to 3-2 in the Jayhawk West and 4-4-1 overall while keeping Pratt winless at 0-6 and 0-10 on the season.  The third place Lady Cougars will next head to Garden City on Wednesday for a pivotal matchup with the second place Broncbusters in a 2:00 p.m. kick-off.

Schofield's five goals jumped on the Barton record book in the fifth spot for most single game goals, a feat now achieved nine times in Lady Cougar history.  Great Bend's Yesenia Garcia owns the top achievement with a record setting seven goals in the 2007 season with Shala Giardini netting six goals on three different occasions during the 2009 season.

Schofield also recorded the sixth most points for a Lady Cougar in a single contest, dishing to Hannah Knaak just 1:46 into the contest getting Barton out to the quick lead.  The duo would team up twice more in the game as Knaak set up Schofield's first and fifth goal coming at 20:27 into the first half with the final goal coming with just under twenty minutes to play concluding the 9-0 victory.

Less than four minutes after Knaak's opening goal, Megan Martinez found the back of the net for the fourth time this year putting away Adriana Reyes' first collegiate assist.

Joining Reyes in recording a first collegiate assist, Brooke Russell and Amber Miller each set up Schofield's third and fourth goals of the game coming within the first twelve minutes of second half play.  Russell found Schofield at the 50:04 mark with Miller setting up Schofield a little over six minutes later pushing the lead out to 6-0.

Three minutes later Martinez became the fourth Lady Cougar of the day to distribute her first collegiate assist setting up Miller for the Garden City freshman's third goal of the season.

Not to be outshined by Schofield's record book day, Knaak also put together a solid day adding her second goal of the contest with 21:17 remaining before two minutes later feeding Schofield to wrap up her six point afternoon.

Launching forty-two shots in the team's first meeting, the Lady Cougars struck for forty shots with twenty-three coming on frame.  Shutting out the Beavers for the second time, goalkeeper Alexandra Capalbo and the Barton defense just allowed three shots with Capalbo needing just one save on frame keeping the net clean.
