Barton Women's Soccer fall in season opener at No. 20 Mavericks

The Barton Community College women's soccer team opened up the 2016 season today in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, taking a 7-0 loss to No. 20 ranked Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.  The Lady Cougars fell behind early in the game's first three minutes and trailed by three at the half spoiling Head Coach Ousmane Camara's collegiate debut as the Mavericks remain unbeaten at 4-0 to start the season.   Barton will look to get into the win column on Friday as the Lady Cougars host Northeast Community College in a 2:00 p.m. kick at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

With a light rain falling on the pitch, the Mavericks' early goal lead doubled at the 31st minute as Gifty Asare headed in her 6th goal of the season.   NOC added to its lead with two minutes remaining in the half on Rebekah Brantley's second goal of the year putting Barton in a three goal deficit to intermission.

The second half began much like the first as the Mavericks added another to the scoreboard in the first three minutes as Aby Resendiz kicked in her second of the season.  Ten minutes later Asare struck for her second goal, earning the hat trick three minutes later increasing the lead to six. Mea Gordon put the final touches on the score striking with a little over ten minutes remaining.

Barton had a serious threat to break through with five minutes remaining but keeper Monica Davis came up with a quality save preserving the clean sheet.
