Lady Cougars close out home field with 4-0 shutout over Coffeyville

Playing their final home game of the 2015 season, the Barton Community College women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half defeating Coffeyville Community College 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex.   The victory locks up the fifth seed for the Region VI playoffs as the Lady Cougars improve to 6-4 in the Jayhawk conference while moving past the .500 mark for the first time this season at 7-6.  Coffeyville meanwhile was essentially eliminated from a post-season berth dropping to 4-6 in conference and 7-11 overall.  Barton will wrap up the regular season Monday, October 26, at Kansas City Kansas Community College in a 4:00 p.m. kick-off.

Jennifer Mendez broke open the scoreless game with 14:52 remaining in the first half with her team leading twelfth goal scoring on Nineth Fuentes' third assist of the season.  Five minutes later the dynamic Denise Cuenca put a spectacular head on Maria Munoz' corner kick to find the back of the net giving the Lady Cougars a two goal edge to the break.

The duo struck again five minutes into the second frame as Munoz' fourth assist of the season came on a through ball connecting to Cuenca whose outside foot flip beat Raven keeper Rebekah Shaffar near post for her fourth goal of her freshman campaign.  Freshman reserves Brooke Russell and Rachel Craft closed out the scoring with 4:02 to play as Russell's third goal of the year rattled the top 90 of the net just inside near post from Craft's second assist of the season.
