Barton women’s soccer rallies for 2-1 win over Allen County

The Barton Community College women's soccer team scored two second half goals rallying to a 2-1 victory over Allen County Community College Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex.   Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Lady Cougars took advantage of a second half south wind scoring two goals within five minutes apart in taking the lead with over thirty minutes to play.  The victory moves Barton into sole possession of fifth place at 5-4 and 5-6 on the season while Allen County drops to 3-6 in the Jayhawk and 7-9 on the season.   With three games remaining in the season, Barton will step out of conference play for their next game hosting MCC-Maple Woods in a 2:00 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday before concluding the season with two conference games.

Allen County took the early lead as Amalia Miranda Cortez' long free kick found the foot of Madison Evans fourteen minutes into the game.

Flipping the field for second half action, the Lady Cougars utilized the second half wind advantage launching fourteen shots as Barton outshot the Red Devils sixteen to one.

Megan Martinez picked a great time to score her first collegiate goal as the Garden City freshman took Jennifer Mendez's pass and sent a rocket past Allen County goalkeeper Emilee Mitchell to the near post tying the game with 35:29 remaining.  Five minutes later Mendez had the shot of the day with a forty-yard shaped free kick to the far post giving Barton the game winner.

Barton currently sits in fifth place in the standings with two remaining conference games.  Following Tuesday's game versus MCC-Maple Woods, the Lady Cougars will host Coffeyville Community College in their final regular season home game before traveling to Kansas City Kansas Community College on Monday, October 26, to wrap up regular season play.
