Lady Cougars pick up first victory with 4-2 win at Cowley

Opening the season with consecutive home games against two nationally ranked opponents, the Barton Community College women's soccer team ventured off the friendly turf and tasted victory Saturday in a 4-2 defeat of Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kansas.  The Lady Cougars improve to 1-2 on the season capturing the conference opener while Cowley slips to 0-1 and remains winless on the season after three games.   Barton's next game will come this Tuesday as the Lady Cougars welcome Pratt Community College for a 2:00 p.m. kick at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.

Jennifer Mendez had a big day for the Lady Cougars scoring two goals, the first coming just eight minutes into the contest for her first of the season getting the assist from Maria Munoz's first of the season.

The Tigers were able to tie the contest midway through the first half on a penalty kick, remaining deadlocked until thirty-one minutes left in the contest when a duo of firsts reclaimed the Barton lead.  Nineth Fuentes found the net for the first time from Hannah Knaak's first assist then nine minutes later Dominique Milsap added her name to the first-time list distributing her first assist of the season setting up Mendez's second goal and the eventual game winner.

Cowley made things interesting late as with three minutes remaining drew to within 3-2 scoring off a corner kick situation.  Picking an opportune time to come through for her first career goal, freshman Natalie Espino-Kennedy put the game away increasing the lead to two with just 1:30 remaining.
