  • Lady Cougar Soccer lands three on All-Region Team

    Three players from the Barton Community College women’s soccer team were recently selected to the 2014 All-Region VI team. Landing in the top eleven of the twenty-two member team was midfielder Maria Munoz, while defenseman Millie York and midfielder Maria Rodriguez landed on the second team.
  • Women’s soccer season ends in Region VI Semifinals with 1-0 loss to No. 9 Hutchinson

    The Barton Community College women’s soccer team season ended where it has for the past three seasons, the Region VI Semifinals at Topeka’s Hummer Park. The Lady Cougars held No. 9 Hutchinson Community College scoreless Thursday for fifty-seven minutes until the Blue Dragons broke through at 32:52 remaining and held on for the 1-0 victory. The loss ended the season for the fifth seeded Lady Cougars at 9-7-3 while the top seeded Blue Dragons improve to 15-1-1 and move on to the Region VI Championship at noon Friday against 14-4-3 Butler Community College.
  • York repeats first team honors, Lady Cougar Soccer places six on All-Conference Team

    The Barton Community College women’s soccer team had six players recently selected to the 2014 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Conference team. Headlining the group was two-time first team selection sophomore defenseman Millie York and freshman midfielder Maria Rodriguez. An honorable mention selection in her first season, sophomore defenseman Ronnie Johnson was joined on the second team by a pair of freshman, forward Edith Scarlett Real and Maria Munoz. Aliya Marshall rounded out the six selections as the sophomore forward earned honorable mention honors.
  • Lady Cougars win in 8th PK, advance to Region VI Semifinals for third straight year

    Avenging a 2-0 defeat in Iola, Kansas, earlier in the season, the Barton Community College women’s soccer team won Saturday in the eighth round of a shootout to get the ultimate revenge over Allen Community College in the first round of the Region VI playoffs. Battling to a 1-1 tie through 110 minutes of action, the Lady Cougars got a big save in goal setting up the striking game winner setting off a frenzy of excitement on Allen’s home turf. The victory sends the fifth seeded 9-6-3 Lady Cougars to the semifinal round for the third straight year while fourth seeded Allen’s season comes to an end at 13-4-2.
  • Lady Cougars end regular season with scoreless tie at Pratt

    There are days when the effort doesn’t reflect the results. Thursday in Pratt was one of those days as the Barton Community College women’s soccer team ended the 2014 regular season in a scoreless tie with Pratt Community College. The game marked the fourth extra time game this season for the Lady Cougars and for the second time ended in scoreless draw. Not affecting the Lady Cougars’ fifth seed for the upcoming Region VI playoffs, Barton moves to 5-4-2 in the Jayhawk and 8-6-3 overall. Needing the win for the opportunity to get into the playoffs, Pratt will be on the outside looking in as the Beavers stand at 2-7-2 in conference and 3-9-2 overall.
  • York goal the difference in Lady Cougar win at Neosho

    The Barton Community College women's soccer team picked up a solid win Sunday at the Chanute Sports Complex earning a 1-0 win over Neosho County Community College. The Lady Cougars protected Millie York's second career goal, a twenty-yard free kick sliding under the cross bar ten minutes into the contest in earning the conference victory improving to 5-4-1 and 8-6-2 on the season while dropping the Panthers to 4-4-1 in Jayhawk play and 8-5-1.
  • Borelli’s game winner lifts Lady Cougars in final home game

    On a day holding final memories for sophomores, a freshman stole the spotlight Thursday as the Barton Community College women’s soccer team defeated Garden City Community College 1-0 in overtime. Being the last women’s game played on the turf of Cougar Field for the 2014 season, freshman Danielle Borelli sent the group of sophomores off in winning style with an eighteen yard strike to the top third just 3:58 into golden goal. The victory improves the Lady Cougars’ run for the fifth spot in the Jayhawk conference at 4-4-1 and 7-6-2 overall while Garden City drops to 2-7-0 and 6-8-1.
  • Record performance earns Barton’s Real conference honor

    For the second time this season, Barton Community College women’s soccer team’s Edith “Scarlett” Real put her name in the Barton record books and for the second time was also named the KJCCC Player of the Week. Getting four goals in a single contest a month ago, the freshman from Dodge City eclipsed her mark with a five goal one assist performance last Tuesday leading Barton to an 8-0 Jayhawk Conference victory over Cowley College. The performance placed Real into a fifth place tie for most single game goals scored in school history while her eleven points tied for the sixth best most points scored in a game.
  • Barton women’s soccer surrenders four unanswered in loss at No. 15 Butler

    Despite an early lead Sunday in El Dorado, the Barton Community College women’s soccer couldn’t contain No. 15 ranked Butler Community College in falling 4-1 at the BG Products Sports Complex. The fifth straight loss to the Grizzlies drops Barton below the .500 mark in conference play at 3-4-1 and 6-6-2 overall while Butler keeps chase in the conference race at 6-0-1 and 9-3-3 overall.
  • Real and freshman class step up to lead offensive flurry in 8-0 win over Cowley

    Barton Community College women’s soccer coach Aaron Avila knew he had perhaps his most talented group of freshman when the third year head coach signed the group last spring. Tuesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex the developing players showed glimpses of a bright future for Barton Soccer accounting for all but one goal in the Lady Cougars 8-0 victory over Cowley College. The win improves Barton to 3-3-1 in Jayhawk play and 6-5-2 overall while dropping the Tigers to 1-7 in conference and 1-10 on the season.
  • Barton women’s soccer outshot in 2-1 overtime loss to No. 17 Hutchinson

    For sixty-five minutes Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex, the Barton Community College women’s soccer team appeared to be heading for an upset of Hutchinson Community College. Credit to the No. 17 Blue Dragons as Hutchinson pelted away at the Barton defense in the second half forcing an extra frame then ending the Cougars hopes with the 2-1 overtime victory. The Lady Cougars’ setback drops Barton to 5-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play while Hutchinson remains unbeaten and at the top of the Jayhawk standings at 6-0-1 and 7-1-1 overall.
  • Marshall’s two goals help lead Barton’s women soccer in shutout at Hesston

    Coming off a disappointing conference loss on Saturday the Barton Community College women’s soccer team put together a solid road win Tuesday at Hesston College pulling away for a 3-0 victory. The non-conference win improved the Lady Cougars to 5-4-2 on the season while dropping Hesston to 3-5-1 on the season.

    Giving up three first half goals, the Barton Community College women’s soccer team couldn’t find the net in the second half dropping a conference battle Saturday 3-0 to Johnson County Community College at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The loss drops the Lady Cougars to 2-2-1 in conference play and 4-4-2 on the season while Johnson County sits atop the standings at 3-0-0 and 7-3 overall.

    The Barton Community College women’s soccer team picked up a solid road conference win Wednesday shutting out Coffeyville Community College 2-0. The victory improves the Lady Cougars to 2-1-1 in conference play and 3-4-2 on the season while giving Coffeyville their second straight loss in falling to 2-2-0 in the Jayhawk and 4-3-0 overall.
  • Barton’s Real named women’s soccer KJCCC player of the week

    Barton Community College women’s soccer team’s Edith “Scarlett” Real put her name in the school record books last Wednesday versus Kansas City Kansas Community College with her four goal first half thus earning her the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week honor. With the Lady Cougars in an offensive funk this season, the Dodge City freshman got Barton off to a fast start scoring her first of four goals by the fourth minute of play. Less than four minutes later Real scored her second and completed her goal assault within the game’s first twenty-one minutes. Her effort placed her tied for twelfth in school history and had her fifth shot on goal not hit the crossbar, Real would have jumped to fifth in the record books.
  • Lady Cougars shut down, fall 2-0 to No. 4 Tyler

    Having scored seven goals in its last outing, the Barton Community College women’s soccer team had few opportunities to score on Saturday as the No. 4 ranked Tyler Junior College Apaches shut out the Cougars 2-0. Played in El Dorado, Kansas, at the BG Products Sports Complex, the Apaches scored two first half goals and kept the Cougars from launching any shots on goal to capture the victory. The loss drops Barton to 2-4-2 on the season while the Apaches remain unbeaten at 6-0. Barton will return to conference action on Wednesday as both the men’s and women’s teams will play at Coffeyville Community College beginning at 4:00 p.m. for the women’s game followed by the men’s game.
  • Lady Cougars get offensive in 7-0 rout of KCK

    If the Barton Community College women’s soccer team gave any indication of struggling offensively this season, Tuesday the Lady Cougars looked like an offensive juggernaut in a 7-0 rout of Kansas City Kansas Community College at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex. Scoring five first half goals against a 20 mph south wind, the Lady Cougars finished with thirty shots forcing the Blue Devil keeper into eleven saves on the day. The victory improves Barton to 2-3-2 on the season and evens their conference mark at 1-1-1 while dropping KCK to 0-2 in both conference and season record.
  • Struggling Lady Cougars drop road contest

    The offensive woes of the Barton Community College women’s soccer team continued Saturday as the Lady Cougars suffered a 2-0 defeat at Allen Community College. Held scoreless in the last two games, the Lady Cougars continue to search for the scoring combination in the early season being shutout for the third time while being outscored 7-4. The loss drops Barton to 1-3-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference play while Allen improves to 2-0-1 in their conference opener. Barton’s next opportunity to unlock the offensive door comes Tuesday as the Lady Cougars host Kansas City Kansas Community College beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.
  • Scoreless ties opens conference season for Lady Cougars

    The Barton Community College women’s soccer team and Dodge City Community College battled to a scoreless two extra time deadlock in a Jayhawk Conference season opener Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex. With south winds of more than 20mph throughout the contest, the Lady Cougars outshot the Lady Conquistadors 14-10 and 5-1 on frame but none could find their mark in settling for the fourth tie in the teams’ series history. Barton will next play Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. conference contest at Allen County Community College
  • Lady Cougars on unlucky end of 2-1 home loss

    The Barton Community College women’s soccer team had an unlucky day on the pitch Sunday at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex, falling 2-1 to Trinidad State Junior College. The loss dropped the Lady Cougars to 1-2-1 on the season while Trinidad State completes their trip to Kansas with a perfect 3-0 record after having defeated Garden City Community College and Pratt Community College earlier in the week. Barton will next turn its focus to conference play as the Lady Cougars host Dodge City Community College at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • Lady Cougars earn shutout for first victory of the season

    The first victory of the season came a little later than expected but Saturday at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex, the Barton Community College women’s soccer team broke through for a 2-0 shutout of Western Nebraska Community College. The victory improved the lady Cougars to 1-1-1 on the season while giving Western Nebraska a season opening loss. Barton will return to the pitch on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. game against Trinidad State Junior College while Western Nebraska will take on Pratt Community College in a 10:00 a.m. matchup.
  • Lady Cougars battle to 1-1 tie in season opener

    The Barton Community College women’s soccer team began the 2014 season Friday battled with Western Wyoming Community College for ninety-minutes settling for a 1-1 tie. With temperatures nearing 107 degrees on the turf, both teams played with limited squads agreeing to settle the season opener without extra time.

    Spending much of last season in the national polls, the 2014 version of the Barton Community College women’s soccer team looks to get over the hump after ending the season for the second straight year in the Region VI semifinals. The first test will come against Western Wyoming Community College as the Lady Cougars begin the season on Friday in a 4:00 p.m. contest at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.
