No. 12 Lady Cougars grind out 2-1 win over Independence

The No. 12 ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team earned a hard fought 2-1 win Tuesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex over Independence Community College.  An early two goal lead stood for the final fifty-eight minutes as the Lady Cougars survived a second half Pirate charge and strong south wind to capture the victory.  Barton improves to 9-1 in the conference and 9-3 overall while dropping Independence to 3-3-2 in conference play and 5-4-2 overall.  The Lady Cougars will head to Overland Park on Saturday for a key 1:30 p.m. conference game with No. 16 ranked Johnson County Community College.

Molly Hausmann scored her fifth goal of the season just 5:21 into the contest to give the Lady Cougars the early lead.  Freshman Ronnie Johnson then helped add to the total six minutes later finding Bianca Barron who fancy foot her way past Independence goalkeeper Kyndra Johnson for the early 2-0 Barton lead.

The Lady Cougars, battling against a strong south wind, appeared to have a shutout intact until the Pirates' Kirstin Perez shot bounced over the head of Barton's Kacee Walsh with 6:46 remaining in the game.

Barton outshot the Pirates 16-7 with the Lady Cougars holding a 10-6 advantage on shots within the pipes.  Coming off the bench for second half action, freshman Kacee Walsh recorded five saves on the six shots on goal.  Reigning two-time conference and national goalkeeper of the week Stephanie Lomas played in first half action but didn't face any shots.

Bianca Barron continued her climb up the Barton record books with her first half goal.  Now with 47 goals on the season Barron is two behind Great Bend's Yesenia Garcia for second place on the Barton all-time list and draws to within seventeen of Garcia for third place in points scored in a career.
