Lomas adds national honor for second consecutive week

Bestowed the honor of being named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday, Barton Community College women's soccer goalkeeper Stephanie Lomas added the national honor to last week's achievements on Wednesday being named the NJCAA Goalkeeper of the week.  The honors mark the second consecutive week Lomas has received both the conference and national award and one of two Lady Cougars to ever receive the conference award in consecutive weeks, joining fellow sophomore Bianca Barron who earned the honor in weeks eight and nine last season.

The sophomore from Great Bend, Kansas, made the most of her one appearance last week, anchoring then No. 16 ranked Barton's 1-0 victory at nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College.  Lomas saved seven shots on goal to ensure her fifth shutout of the season as the Lady Cougars defeated Hutchinson for the first time since 2007 and handed the Blue Dragons their first home shutout loss since 2006.

Lomas was given a game off from action this past Sunday as freshman Kacee Walsh anchored the Lady Cougar defense in the 5-1 victory over Neosho County Community College.

With the Lady Cougars moving up to No. 12 in the recently released NJCAA poll, the stakes and attention elevate for Friday's pivotal conference matchup as Barton hosts No. 8 Butler Community College at 4:00 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer Complex.  Barton enters the game at 8-0 in conference play and 8-2 overall while the Grizzlies, who defeated No. 20 Johnson County Community College 2-1 in overtime late Sunday evening, will bring a 4-0 conference mark and 9-2 record overall.

For the season, Lomas and the Lady Cougar defense headlined by fellow sophomore Olimpia Bonilla, has recorded four shutouts in eight victories and another shutout combined with Walsh.  After a tough season opening weekend against No. 4 Navarro College and No. 6 Tyler Junior College, Lomas has only surrendered a lone goal coming in early first half play against Kansas City Kansas Community College on September 15.
