The Barton Community College women's soccer team swept this week's awards, winning both the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Sophomores Bianca Barron and Stephanie Lomas earned the honors after helping to Barton to two conference victories last week as the Lady Cougars improved to 6-0 in conference play and 6-2 overall.  In addition to the conference award, Lomas also earned the national distinction of being named the NJCAA Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance. Barton, ranked No. 16 in the latest NJCAA and NSCAA national polls, travel to nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College today for a pivotal 4:00 p.m. conference matchup in Hutchinson.  Hutchinson, after taking a 4-1 loss at Coffeyville Community College last week, was previously ranked at No. 12 in the NJCAA poll and now stands at 5-1 in conference and 6-1 overall.

The 5'1" Barron accounted for six of the Lady Cougars' ten goals this past week in two Barton victories to earn player of the week honors for the third time in her career.  Barron's five goals against Dodge City came in the first half as the Lady Cougars pounded the Conquistadors to a 7-0 halftime advantage.  The five-goal feat marked the third time the sophomore from West Jordan, Utah, has scored five goals in her career and vaulted her to fourth all-time in Barton history.

Great Bend native Stephanie Lomas is quietly developing into a solid goalkeeper and is one of the big reasons why the Lady Cougars are off to a 6-0 conference start.  Winning the goalkeeper award for the first time in her career, Lomas recorded her third and fourth shutout of the season making four saves on four shots on goal.  Lomas' value in goal is not always evident in statistics as her decision making and directing an inexperienced defensive line throughout the season has thwarted numerous scoring opportunities preventing shots on goal.

Barton's next home game will be this Sunday as the Lady Cougars welcome Neosho County Community College to the Cougar Soccer Complex for a 2:00 p.m. conference game.
