The Barton Community College wrestling team opened the conference dual season with a pair of losses Wednesday evening at the Barton Gym

Fresh off an upset loss to Cowley College to begin the triangular, 11th ranked Labette Community College was in no mood for the Cougars in registering a 44-4 win. Cowley College upset the Cardinals in the first match of the evening as a 285 division pin proved the final difference maker in the 24-19 victory.

In the nightcap Barton spotted Cowley with a pair of forfeit victories in the dual to eventually fall 38-15.

Barton will have a week away from action before heading south down 281 for a Thursday, January 18th dual at No. 2 Pratt Community College.

Deryk Yott provided the Cougars two wins in the dual at the 157 division, the first coming on a 16-7 major decision over Jamarius Koshko giving Barton its lone 4 points against Labette before getting a forfeit victory in the nightcap versus Cowley.

Open at the 125 division, Barton trailed 15-0 against Cowley before earning nine straight points, three coming from Cohen Suchy earning a hard fought 4-1 decision over the Tigers' Justin Raffin followed by Yott's forfeit win.

Dorian Hippen bounced back from a rough technical fall tangle with Labette's No. 2 nationally ranked Matthew Marcum to split his evening's matches by pinning Cowley's Lewis Caples in 2:16.

The Cougars' Nathan Agudzi-Addo was up 7-4 in his 285 match against Labette but a misstep leading to a 3:33 fall concluded the dual. Later on against Cowley, the banged up Agudzi-Addo would sit the final match out giving the Tigers another six point forfeit in wrapping up the dual scoring.

Barton chalked up success in a trio of exhibition matches held during the evening. Eastin Redetzke earned the first with an extra time takedown in defeating Caydon Miller of Labette in a 141 division bout.

On the front and back end of the Cowley dual, the Tigers' Chase Koehler took on two Cougars at 149, Kayden Blake earning a 3:40 fall with Jarret Mader handing Koehler another tough loss on a 5:54 back pinning capping the night.
