Barton wrestling places nine at Cougar Open, Agudzi-Addo posts runner-up finish #GoBarton

Nathan Agudzi-Addo's runner-up finish led the Barton Community College wrestling team on Sunday as the Cougars' hosted the Cougar Open held at the Great Bend High School PAC center.

Battling amongst 2nd ranked Pratt Community College, 11th ranked Labette Community College and 18th ranked Northeastern Junior College, Barton placed nine of their 10 participants while concluding the day with an 11-21 record.

Agudzi-Addo needed just two wins on the mat to capture the runner-up finish in the 285 division round robin, opening his day with a 2:29 fall over Pratt's Carter Atteberry. Suffering a 12-0 major decision and 5:47 fall in his next two bouts, the freshman secured his second-place finish with a quick 27-second fall over Pratt's Luke Young.

Dropping his opening two matches in the 133 division, Eastin Redetzke recovered in a resilient way settling for a fourth place finish and 2-2 day on the mat. The freshman rattled off an 11-8 decision over Labette's Cruz Lopez before capping his afternoon with an early third period 6:04 fall over Pratt's Samuel Dickey.

A pair of Cougars battled in the 157 division with Deryk Yott going 2-2 on the day including a victory over fellow teammate Ethan Boles in the fifth-place bout. Yott started his day with a quick 31-second mat flattener over Brennon Gann of Pratt after receiving an opening round bye. Dropping a pair of major decisions setting up an all Barton bout for fifth place, Yott narrowly squeezed out a 6-2 decision over teammate Boles.

Boles much like Yott opened his day with a bye while winning his first tilt with a 15-8 decision over Labette's Roman Coldwell before concluding the day on the wrong side of his final two matches.

Cohen Suchy in the 149 division would join teammates Agudzi-Addo, Redetzke and Yott with two victories on the day both beneficial of medical forfeits to finish with a 2-2 record.

Competing in just a three participant round robin in the 184 division, Edgar Duarte Quiroz settled for a third place conclusion dropping both matches.

Barton's other victories came from Kayden Blake and Stephan Baldwin. Blake settled for a eighth placing going 1-1 afternoon in the 149-division as an injury sustained ultimately ended the freshman's day while Baldwin finished his day in fifth placing and 1-2 mark in the 141 division.

Barton will conclude the pre-Christmas schedule Friday as the Cougars head to the Loossbrock Duals held in Atchinson, KS.
