The Barton Community College wrestling team opened the 2023 season Sunday competing at the Dan Harris Open held in Baldwin City, Kansas.
The Cougars' debut for Head Coach Nathan Broeckelman produced a trio of Top-4 placers as the squad combined to go 20-26 on the day.
Avery Wolf (133), Cohen Suchy (149), and Dorian Hippen (197 each advanced to the 3rd place match before falling to 4-year level competitors in settling for the 4th placing.
Wolf was credited with three victories on the day, two wins coming over Baker University opponents, as freshman Jarret Mader also chalked up a trio of wins after dropping his first match before having his day end in the consolation semifinals.
Chalking up two wins each but falling short of the placings, Eastin Redetzke (133), Ethan Boles (157), and Keenon Gonzales-Brown (174).
Barton travels to Grimes, Iowa, for its next meet on Saturday competing at the Grandview Open held at the Ignit Sports Complex.
