The 12th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team began play today at the NJCAA Division I Championships held at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, Florida.

The Cougars shot a combined 51-over 339 on the Par 72 course to conclude opening day action in the tenth spot of the fifteen team field. Barton will re-join first round pairing of 5th spot Mesa Community College and 11th spot McLennan Community College in day two pairings set to tee off at 7:00 a.m. Central Time.

Mathanee Pandee led the five Cougar entries with a 5-over 77 to sit tied for 11th in the ninety-player field. Getting off to a bogey start, Pandee birdied two of the next eight holes to make the turn at 2-over before adding another on the back nine to record the second most birdies of the tournament field.

Pornnapa Inmee also birdied a pair of front nine holes to offset a double bogey start in posting a 5-over score at the turn. Planting six pars on the back nine scorecard, Inmee limited damage after another double bogey for an improved 4-over close out to finish the round tied for 24th at 9-over 81.

The first hole got the best of all but five of the Cougars, Paulina Villavicencio's bogey start being offset two holes later with her lone birdie on the day. Making the turn at 5-over, the back nine posed problems resulting in four double bogeys and a seven on the par four 15th resulting in day one's completion in the 56th spot at 18-over 90.

Pawinee Sukasem was the lone exception to the opening hole, picking up a par but a hole later water hazard issues resulted in her lone bad hole in taking an 11 on the par five. Regrouping with a par on the next hole, Sukasem was bogey or better the remaining sixteen holes with one exception coming on a double-bogey eighth. Closing out her final ten holes at plus 7, Sukasem ended the day tied for 64th at 19-over 91.

Rounding out the Cougar entries was Matilyn Newman with a 77th place 25-over 97. Falling victim like Sukasem on the second hole in taking a nine, Newman closed out the final nine with four pars on the way to a 7-over in building momentum to day two.
