Big first day powers Barton women's golf team to second victory of season

The Barton Community College women's golf team built a nineteen stroke lead after day one of the Coffeyville Invitational cruising to a fifteen stroke victory.  Played at Adams Municipal Golf Course in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the Lady Cougars and the field endured extreme hot and humid temperatures to post a combined 701 through 36 holes to distance Seminole State College's 716.

Peerada Piddon continued her hot start to the season winning her second consecutive tournament opening with a 6-over 78 before firing a 2-over 74 capturing the title by thirteen strokes over Seminole's Makyla Poponick.

Firing a second place opening round of 83, Mackenzie Fabrizius courageously fought through an injury for Tuesday's final round finishing with a 96 to slip to the fourth spot.  Kendra Jellison was three strokes behind in fifth place with a 182 with rounds of 90 and 92.  Miranda Kern made it four Lady Cougars in the top ten with twin 94's to finish in a 188 tie for seventh place.

Breaking 100 with an opening 99, Janae Champlin closed with a 102 to finish with a tournament 201 while individualists Olivia Neuenswander posted rounds of 103 and 104 to card a 207 while Taylor Becker finished at 213 with 106 and 107 rounds.

Playing 63 rounds of golf in five days, the Lady Cougars will take over a week off from competition before hitting the links of the Coffeyville Country Club on Friday and Saturday, September 30 and October 1, in the KJCCC second meet of the season.
