Barton women's bowling ties program best Tier-I finish at Mid-States Championships #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's bowling team took a positive step forward this past weekend earning a 12th place finish at the Mid-States Championships held at Wichita's West Acres Bowl.

Matching the program's best Tier-I finish recorded at the same event in the 2019-20 season, the Cougars accounted for 8,439 destroyed pins over the two-day tournament which featured 24 teams consisting of the top NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA programs from the Midwest.

Battling over six-individual games and 20-baker games, Mount Mercy University claimed the team title scoring a tournament best 9,379 pins, edging out Newman University's runner-up output of 9,323.

Barton's top player Chailyn Scott fell just shy of a top-10 performance with a 12th best six-game pinfall of 1,143, for an average game score of 190.3. The freshman rolled a trio of games over the 200-mark with scores of 222, 219 and 201.

Angelina Leeper finished five spots back of Scott with a 17th finish at 1,114 pins (185.7 per game) and posted the team's best single game score of 243 in the sophomore's opening game of her six games tossed.

Jasmine Bridges and Olivia Oliver concluded Barton's top-65 performance with 56th and 64th placings of scores 1,003 and 971 respectfully.

Fielding a junior varsity squad, Cassidy Eschliman led the second entry team with a 74th place 891 six-game total and average round of 148.5.

Cheyenne O'Connor, Morgan Kolanek, and Charlee Bitler fell within five spots of each other with finishes of (113th), (115th), and (116th).

Barton will remain in state for the second straight weekend competing Saturday and Sunday in the Jayhawk Challenge held at Lawrence's Roy Crest Lanes.
