Barton women dominate NW Tech in 93-38 victory #GoBarton

Held to a season low output last time on the court, the Barton Community College women's basketball team scored early and often Wednesday night at the Barton Gym to post a season high output in a 93-38 victory over Northwest Kansas Technical College.

The Cougars held a tight two-point, 7-5 lead before owning the next five minutes with a 15-0 run putting Northwest Tech in the taillights of a 27-8 first quarter margin.

Tacking on ten more to its lead in the second frame, the Cougars exploded again for a 28 point third quarter output in rolling to its largest margin of victory in the series while holding the Mavericks to a series low 38 total points.

The victory improves Barton 4-2 in conference play and 8-3 overall while dropping Northwest Tech to 0-5 in league and 1-8 on the season.

Barton wraps up their pre-holiday break schedule on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. tip at Seward County Community College.

All five starters reached double-figures on the night with the guard play of Grace John and Quezia Bertoni combining for 34 points on 14-of-19 shooting, 12 assists, and 11 of the Cougars' 13 steals.  Each had 17 points and 6 assists with Bertoni getting the edge with a career high 6 steals to John's 5.

The inside play of Vivian Onugha and Vera Ojenuwa worked back-n-forth scoring twelve of Barton's points inside the 15-0 first quarter run, Onugha going on to post her 4th double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds with Ojenuwa scoring 16 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing out a career high 4 assists.

Barton shot 51.4% from the floor and was 9-of-23 behind the arc, five coming from Tatum Boettjer on 5-of-9 shooting in making two or more triples for the 10th time of the year in compiling 15 points.

Macie Smith connected on a trey towards a 7 point outing in leading a twelve point advantage in bench scoring.

Northwest Tech shot a Barton opponent season low 21.3%, being led by the 12 points from Torrai Logan and getting 10 points and 7 rebounds from Jalynn Alexander. Serena Lee led the team with 8 rebounds to go along with 7 points.
