Bertoni's program record feeds 25th ranked Barton women to 89-36 victory over Labette #GoBarton

Trailing 2-0 to start Saturday evening's contest hosting Labette Community College, the 25th ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team went on a 14-0 run to put the Cardinals in the taillights in cruising to an 89-36 victory capping the women's portion of Best Western Angus Inn/Cougar Booster Club Classic.

Barton's next contest comes Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. on the road against familiar foe Redlands Community College, a squad the Cougars defeated Friday evening 74-41 of the weekend's Classic, then opens conference play next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. hosting Independence Community College.

The Cougars went on the big early run behind the sizzling shooting from Tatum Boettjer, connecting on her first four shots behind the arc on the way to a 21 point, 7-of-8 long distance shooting night.

Barton women's basketball player Quezia Bertoni is recognized for her program record 16 assists alongside Athletic Director Trevor Rolfs Most of Boettjer's shots were set up by Quezia Bertoni as the sophomore surpassed a 25-year program record by dishing out 16 assists in 26 minutes of court time. The achievement bypassed Emily Stucky's 15 assist performance against Colby Community College on February 14, 1998.

Bertoni dished out four assists while Boettjer was draining dialed-in long range connections sparking Barton on the early decisive 14-0 run as just four minutes had clicked off the game clock.

Boettjer canned two more treys in the second frame for a 6-of-6, 18-point first half while Bertoni went to the break with 11 assists.

Along with Boettjer's pair of treys in the second period, Macie Smith came off the bench to also bury two behind the arc in scoring 14 points in the frame to eventually finish with 16 points.

Vivian Onugha also helped contribute to the Cougars' 43 points off the bench by scoring 13 to go along with 8 rebounds.

Grace John, who dished a previously program second most 14 assists in the second game of the season, flirted with another double-double performance behind a 9 point and 8 rebound effort while tying Bertoni for team high thefts with 5 each.

The Cougars finished 48.6% on the night from the field including a 31-point, 63.2% second quarter output.

Labette shot just 26% on the night, just 1-of-23 from behind the arc, being led by Natalia Silvia's 16 points with 4 steals.

In the earlier contest, Hutchinson Community College shook off a pesky Redlands 83-65 to improve to 5-0 on the year with the Cougars taking back-to-back losses in falling to 4-2.
