25th ranked Barton women knock Redlands from the unbeaten #GoBarton

The 25th ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team scored Friday evening's opening ten points and never looked back in rolling to a 74-41 victory over Redlands Community College in the opening night of the Best Western Angus Inn/Cougar Booster Club Classic.

Improving to 3-0, the Cougars will next play on Saturday in the 5:30 p.m. contest against Labette Community College as the Cardinals were overwhelmed by Hutchinson Community College 106-33 in the earlier contest. Taking their first loss of the season dropping to 4-1 on the year, Redlands will look to regroup in taking on the 4-0 Blue Dragons to begin the day with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.

Vera Ojenuwa scored the first eight of Barton's 10-0 start to the night, going on to finish with career highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds in posting her third straight double-double to begin her collegiate career.

The Cougars nearly had another pair of double-double performances, Grace John scoring 14 points with 9 rebounds while Vivian Onugha came off the bench for 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds helping Barton to a plus-24 edge on the glass. Tatum Boettjer finished with 9 points on 3-of-8 long distance shooting, Macie Smith drained a trey in her 7-point night, and Emma Toombs connected on her first collegiate three-pointer as the Cougars were 6-of-17 beyond the arc.

Isabell Stafford and Jaiana Wiggins led the Cougars from Redlands with 8 points each.

Barton shot 44.6% on the evening with a solid 18-of-22 from the stripe while Redlands finished up a 28.8% from the field including just 3-of-23 from behind the arc and 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
