Barton's Womsi earns fourth KJCCC Player of the Week honor #GoBarton

For the fourth time of the season, Jenny Nkem Womsi of the 16th ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team has been named the KJCCC Division I Player of the Week.

The Week 15 honor is the fourth of the season for Womsi in having earned the Week 2 KJCCC and NJCAA distinction and the consecutive honors in Week 6 and 7 distinction, bringing the sophomore's seventh weekly award in her Barton career.

Womsi averaged a double-double for the week helping the then-17th ranked Cougars lock up sole possession of second place in the conference standings. Shooting 68% in the two games, Womsi averaged 16 points and 14.5 rebounds including tying a career high 25 points in Saturday's win over Colby. Continuing her move up within multiple single season and career program categories, Womsi most notable recent movements were 19 defensive rebounds in the two games to move into 2nd place of single season achievements and 3rd in single season and career rebounds.

Womsi leads Region VI averaging 13.2 rebounds per game, a league 9th best 15.2 points per contest, and has posted 21 double-double performances out of the Cougars 29 games.

Now 19-4 in league play and 25-4 overall, Barton will put its nine-game win streak to the test Wednesday in a 5:30 p.m. tip at conference champion and 10th ranked Dodge City Community College.

Regardless of the outcome, Barton will have a first round bye for the Region VI Tournament then host a quarterfinal game at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7.
