17th ranked Cougar women roll to 70-49 win over Colby #GoBarton

The 17th ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team put together a solid middle twenty minutes Saturday afternoon in rolling to a 70-49 victory of Colby Community College.

Starting off slow in trailing by two at the first period horn, the Cougars outscored Colby by twenty-five in the next two frames on "Sophomore Day" in cruising to its ninth straight victory of the season.

Locking up second place of the conference standings with the win, Barton improves to 19-4 in league and 25-4 overall while Colby drops to 0-23 and 1-27 on the year.

The Cougars wrap up regular season play on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. tip at conference champion and 10th ranked Dodge City Community College.

Regardless of the outcome, Barton will have a first round bye for the Region VI Tournament, hosting a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 7.

Jenny Nkem Womsi led ten Cougars in the scoring column, tying a career high 25 points and posting her 21st double-double of the year by grabbing 18 rebounds, to go along with, dishing out 3 assists and 2 steals. Morgan Meyers dropped four behind the arc in her 19 points as the only other Cougar in double digits. Racheal Emmanuel grabbed 11 rebounds for the second straight game hauling down 10 or more boards and Acorionna Lard dished out 5 assists.

Aaliyah Chambers led Colby with 22 points with Peyton Pickney had her two-game double-double streak end by scoring 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Barton trailed 11-9 after the first period before flipping the lead two minutes into the second period. The Cougars then put the Trojans in the taillights for the final 6:55, rattling off six straight before closing the half with the final thirteen points in outscoring Colby by twenty for a 37-19 lead.

Following a Colby bucket to open up second half action, Barton outscored the Trojans 11-1 over the next six minutes in pushing its lead to its largest of twenty-six with 3:43 remaining in the quarter.

Taking a 51-28 advantage to the final quarter, Barton kept the margin over nineteen the rest of the way for its 7th straight victory of the series.

- Barton runs their home record to 15-1 – the most home wins since the 1998-99 season
- The victory was Alan Clark's #140 at the helm – improving to 140-78 (64.2%)
- Womsi's 18 rebounds marked the 26th time this season the sophomore has exceeded 10 or more rebounds in a game.
- Nine sophomores were recognized for their contributions to the program in a ceremony in between the women's and men's games
