Barton Women's Basketball result at Colby Community College

The 18th ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team took care of business Wednesday evening on the road in a blowout 89-47 victory at Colby Community College.

Leading by just five early in the second period, the Cougars held the Trojans scoreless over four minutes while going on a 12-0 run to break open the contest. Increasing their 18 point gap with a 9-2 start to the third period, Barton would later string 13 straight in the fourth frame in cruising to the win and holding their 10th straight opponent under 59 points.

The victory keeps Barton on the door step of first place in the standings at 9-2 in moving to 15-2 on the season. Handling Colby their fifth straight loss in the series and fifteenth straight on the year, the Trojans drop to 0-11 in league and 1-15 overall.

Next up for the Cougars is a tangle for first place of the conference race as Barton welcomes 13th ranked Dodge City Community College to the Barton Gym on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.

Eleven Cougars reached the scoring column led by Jenny Nkem Womsi's fifth straight and 12th double-double of the year in scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds in just twenty minutes of court time.

Barton's bench outscored Colby 42-1, getting second half scoring from Lili Shubert's 14 season high points, Alissa Heskamp's 11 points, and McKenna Vogl's 9 points to match her career high for the second straight game. Morgan Meyers dropped a pair of treys on the evening for 12 points.

Jayla Sample led Colby with 14 points with Peyton Pinkney scoring 11 points as the duo were 8-of-24 from the field as the lone Trojans reaching double figures.

The Cougars spread the wealth in stringing a pair of 6-0 runs to jump out 12-2 before Colby got their legs in putting up seven straight slicing the deficit to 12-9 by the midpoint.

Capped by Meyers' late quarter trey, Barton outscored the Trojans 9-4 the rest of the frame to lead by eight at period horn.

Colby began the second quarter with an And-1, adding another bucket after a Womsi field goal to slip the deficit to five and again at five following a pair of Meyers free throws.

The bucket would be the last for the Trojans for the next five minutes as Barton would go on a 12-0 run in breaking open the contest.

Getting a Grace John drive to the hole, Meyers' second triple of the half, and Womsi's 16th point of the half Barton stretched the lead to eighteen by halftime in a 44-26 advantage.

Barton got off to a 9-2 start to the third frame, holding the Trojans without a field goal for four minutes.

Heskamp asserted her game in the final four minutes of the quarter, scoring four straight and six of Barton's 8-3 stretch for a commanding 61-33 lead to the fourth.

Vogl became the 10th Cougar to hit the scoring column in putting Barton's first points on the board to begin the final frame. Heskamp canned a triple for her 11th point in less than six minutes of court time with Vogl adding seven points in the final period to match a season high nine points for the second straight game.
