15th ranked Barton women suffer tough loss at 12th ranked Hutchinson #GoBarton

A twelve point second half lead wasn't enough Saturday evening at the Hutchinson Sports Arena as the 15th ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team's upset bid fell by the wayside in a 56-51 loss at 12th ranked Hutchinson Community College.

Morgan Meyers' jumper to open up third quarter scoring pushed Barton's lead out to twelve but five point blank misses and being outscored by seven the rest of the quarter turned the momentum. The Blue Dragons, still facing a five point deficit headed into the fourth, continued to roll behind 61% final period shooting while the Cougars' 31% second half shooting and thirteen turnovers were too much to overcome.

Barton drops from the unbeaten on the season at 8-1 and 2-1 in conference play with Hutchinson improving to 9-1 and 3-1 in league. The Cougars will look to get back into the win column at home on Wednesday in a 5:30 p.m. tip hosting Independence Community College.

Meyers led the Cougars with 16 points on 5-for-16 from the field and 3-of-12 from beyond the arc as Barton posted season lows with 19 made field goals on 30.2% shooting and committed a season high 22 personal fouls.

Alissa Heskamp added 10 points behind 2-of-2 long distance shooting while Mikaela Hall contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds as the duo combined to outscore the Hutchinson bench by twelve. Jenny Nkem Womsi added 8 points and 12 rebounds with Hutchinson coming out on top overall by a one rebound margin.

Like the Cougars, Hutchinson only had two in double figures led by the 16 points and 9 rebounds from Kali Howard who provided an emotional dagger to Barton by canning her 5th three-pointer of the season putting the Blue Dragons up four with 1:20 remaining. Morgan Browning had 11 points with Monae Duffy adding 8 points and 9 rebounds.
