Barton women's basketball celebrates a made three-pointer

The Barton Community College women's basketball team drained a season high fifteen three-pointers Monday night as the Cougars erased a twelve point deficit in rolling to a 77-58 win over 21st ranked Hutchinson Community College.

The win secures Barton's first regular season sweep over the Blue Dragons since 2009, improving their chances of a 2nd place West standing at 15-5 and 16-5 overall while first place Hutchinson drops to 16-4 and 17-4 on the season.

Barton closes out the regular on Wednesday in hosting Dodge City Community College at 5:30 p.m. with sophomore recognition taking place immediately following the contest.

Down by as many as 12 points in the opening quarter with shooting 50% and draining 4-of-5 from behind the arc, Barton turned the tide in the second quarter.

Putting together a 20-0 run, Barton heated up sinking 6-of-8 from long range and 69% shooting overall while Hutchinson cooled down to just 27% including 1-of-6 three-pointers.

The Cougars lead 38-28 at halftime but Hutchinson worked the margin to just six headed into the final frame.

Barton added five more long range shots to their total in the final ten minutes in stretching the lead to as many as 21 points while holding Hutchinson to under ten points for the second time in the four quarters in cruising to the win.

Finishing 15-of-26 behind the arc, Barton eclipsed its season high of eight made three-pointers in making the most triples ever against a John Ontjes coached team and the second most against Hutchinson in its program history.

Vanessa Oduah flirted with a double-double in scoring 12 points and dishing out nine assists while Queen Ulabo grabbed a team high eight rebounds and added 11 points including 3-of-4 shooting behind the arc. Along with Flute Player, Lyndi Rumford gave Barton another lift off the bench with eight points and knocking two down from long range.

Kalyn Ervin came off the bench to lead the Blue Dragons with 14 points, hitting 3-of-7 from 3-point range. Lojong Gore was the other Blue Dragon to score in double figures with 12 points. Kate Ogle and Tor'e Alford had eight points each.
