Barton women's basketball lands three on All-Region VI team; Ulabo garners First Team #GoBarton

Barton women's basketball 2020-21 All-Region Team

Sophomore Queen Ulabo was one of three Barton Community College women's basketball players to earn 2021 All-Region VI postseason honors on Thursday.

Ulabo was selected to the first team of the postseason team that combines the Jayhawk West and Jayhawk East to form the all-region team. Sophomores Vanessa Oduah and Tiffany Dortland earned second team honors.

The Cougars finished the season 20-6 and were the Region VI Division I runner-ups for the second consecutive year.

Queen Ulabo – 1st Team All-Region VI
Ulabo a first team selection on the KJCCC Jayhawk West team was the fourth leading scorer in the region this season at 16.3 points per game, while averaging a sixth best mark of 9.0 rebounds per contest. The sophomore displayed 10 double-doubles over the course of the season including consecutive performances in the Region VI semifinal and championship games to close out her Barton career. Arriving to Barton from Baylesa, Nigeria, Ulabo reached double figure scoring in 23 of the Cougars' 26 games chalking up a career high 30 points in the season's third game of the year versus Allen. Equally impressive was Ulabo's glass cleaning abilities hauling down over ten rebounds in a game 12 different times, matching a season best 13 boards three times, six less than her program fifth best total of 20 rebounds in her freshman season.

Vanessa Oduah – 2nd Team All-Region VI
Oduah the second of Barton's three first team KJCCC Jayhawk West selections finished just one spot back of teammate Ulabo in the Region VI scoring column averaging fifth most at 16.1 points per contests. The sophomore displayed 22 games' reaching double-figure scoring over the course of the season, including a career high night of 33 points in 23 minutes against Neosho County. Known for more than just her scoring, Oduah concluded the season ranked 2nd among the assist leaders distributing 4.5 assists per contest. The sophomore handed out a career high nine assists in the season series sweep over Hutchinson.

Tiffany Dortland – 2nd Team All-Region VI
Averaging over 36 minutes of court time, Dortland arguably was the most all-around player for the Cougars. The Russell, Kansas, native concluded the season ranked sixth best in region scoring output with 15.3 points per night. Ranking 10th best in three pointers made per contest at 2.1 in the region, the sophomore added 54 trifectas to her freshman output of 50 finishing her career with a program fifth best total made shots beyond the arc.
