Dortland's career night advances Cougars' to Region VI Quarterfinals #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's basketball team rode Tiffany Dortland's career high performance while leading wire-to-wire Monday evening advancing to the Region VI Quarterfinals for the third straight year with a cruise control 88-50 victory over Allen Community College.

The 3rd seeded Cougars improve to 18-5 on the year earning a second home matchup Wednesday night for a 5:30 p.m. tip versus Coffeyville Community College as the 6th seeded Ravens also took care of business at home 79-60 to end 11th seeded Northwest Kansas Technical College season. 14th seeded Allen County has their 2020-21 campaign end at 1-22. The winner of the Barton-Coffeyville tilt will advance to Friday's 6:00 p.m. semifinal contest at Friends University in Wichita, KS against the victor of 2nd seeded Butler Community College and 7th seeded Garden City.

Opening the scoring with four straight, the Barton big three of Vanessa Oduah, Queen Ulabo and Dortland propelled a 10-2 stretch midway in the opening frame increasing the Cougar lead to 20-12 at the quarters end.

Dortland seized the hot hand in the second tallying personal spurts of 3-0 and 10-0 while accounting for 18 of the Cougars 25 second quarter points. The sophomore shot a sizzling 6-of-8 from the field including a perfect 3-for-3 mark from downtown in the frame snowballing the Barton lead to 45-21 at the halftime horn.

Looking to begin the uphill climb, Allen shot out of the locker rooms with seven straight but a balanced Cougar scoring attack during a 14-0 run lengthened the advantage to 67-35 at the end of three quarters.

Holding a 30-point lead for the majority of the final stanza, back-to-back treys from Bryn Willt and Brennan Kirchhoff in the final two minutes furnished Barton's' largest lead of 41. A late Red Devil triple in the final seconds trimmed the Cougars final margin to 88-50.

Dortland led three Cougars in double figure scoring finishing with 26 points on 8-of-18 shooting and connecting on 4-of-9 attempts from behind the arc. Ulabo finished one rebound shy of her ninth double-double of the season hauling down nine boards to go along with 22 points. Oduah rounded out the double figure scoring for Barton adding 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.

Adji Mbaye was the lone Red Devil to reach double-figures in scoring 22 points on 8-of-14 from the field and perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
