Barton women pick up bounce back win in Colby #GoBarton

Barton Women's basketball result at Colby

The Barton Community College women's basketball team bounced back from having its eight game win streak snapped last time on the court by traveling out to Colby Sunday afternoon and chalking up a 75-59 victory.

Barton improves to 13-4 overall and 12-4 in the West, setting up a pivotal 6:00 p.m. contest in a short turnaround Monday game at Seward County Community College to hold onto second place and control its destiny for a conference title. Colby drops to 3-12 in league and 4-12 on the season.

Vanessa Oduah led four Cougars in double figures scoring 19 points with Tiffany Dortland adding 17 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Queen Ulabo added 16 points while tying and Dortland and Lyndi Rumford with the team high five rebounds. Rebecca Leveque gave the Cougars a much needed 28 minutes of action off the bench, scoring a career high 11 points with four rebounds.

Dejah Vigilante led the Trojans with 12 points and four assists, Kerrigan Johnson added 11 points, and Kirarra Henderson posted her fourth straight double-double by scoring 11 points and hauling down 11 rebounds.

The Cougars took the lead for good five minutes into the contest in pulling away on a 15-2 spurt into the second quarter before closing the first half of action on five straight to lead 33-19 at the halftime break.

An 11-0 run pushed the margin to twenty-one in the third quarter, building the lead out to twenty-five early in the fourth. The Trojans made a run late, cutting the deficit to ten with just under a minute to play but the Cougars were perfect on its final six charity tosses to secure the victory
