Lady Cougars dealt wrath of angry Blue Dragons #GoBarton

Ryen White goes up for a shot

If facing one of the best teams in the Jayhawk Conference wasn't enough, the Barton Community College women's basketball squad had to face an angry Hutchinson Community College team coming off a rare two-game slide. The result was the No. 23 Blue Dragons controlling Wednesday night's tilt at the Barton Gym by widening its margin throughout the night for a 75-57 victory. The loss sends Barton to its third straight falling to 10-12 in conference play and 13-13 overall while Hutchinson remains in third place improving 17-5 and 21-5 overall. The Lady Cougars will play their next two games on the road beginning Saturday with a 6:00 p.m. tip at sixth place Cloud County Community College (14-8, 17-8).

A Jaylin Stapleton buzzer beating bucket just inside the halfcourt line simply put a band-aid on a an eight point first quarter deficit as Hutchinson would fend off the Lady Cougars' rally to extend the margin by six in the next ten minutes to build a 40-26 halftime lead.

The Cougars played the Blue Dragons to within four points in the final twenty minutes but could never break the fourteen point margin the rest of the way.

Taylor Regan led three Lady Cougars in double digits sinking all seven free throws attempts in finishing with thirteen points. Fatou Ndao and Stapleton each scored twelve with Natasha Dolinsky dishing out a team high four assists.

Jada Mickens' thirteen points and eight rebounds led five Blue Dragons in double digits with Kelsey Brett adding twelve. Dejanae Roebuck scored eleven with Alicia Brown and Sara Cramer contributing ten with Cramer recording a game high five dimes.
