Every run the Barton Community College women's team made Wednesday night at the Barton Gym was answered as Independence Community College held off the Lady Cougars before pulling away with a 71-59 victory. Barton falls back to the .500 mark in conference play at 10-10 and 13-11 overall while Independence moves into a second place tie at 16-4 and 20-4 on the year. The Lady Cougars' next contest is Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. tip at Dodge City Community College (6-14, 9-14).

Already in the Barton record book for her rebounding, reigning conference player of the week Taylor Regan set a single game free throw percentage record sinking a perfect 12-of-12 in scoring eighteen points. The Albert, Kansas, native's performance broke the perfect eleven tosses of Tami Cornelsen in 1996 and the 1998 performance of legendary Barton Hall of Famer Wendy Okeson.

Outside of Regan's twelve, the Lady Cougars only missed three of their other fifteen tosses in finishing at an 88.9% clip for the game in tying two previous squads for the sixth best single game team performance in school history.

Joining Regan in double digits were Jaylin Stapleton and Micaela Jellison with eleven. Natasha Dolinsky added eight with a team high four assists and three rebounds while Jellison grabbed a team high seven boards.

The Lady Pirates' Erica Moore knocked down 4-of-7 beyond the arc, a couple sinking through the twine to thwart Barton's momentum, to finish with eighteen points. Mychaell Gray added fourteen leading a twenty-one point Independence bench production advantage while Fatarah Kinnard contributed eleven. Alek Akuen hauled down twelve rebounds helping Independence to a nine board edge on the glass to go along with eight points and a game high six assists and three blocks.
