The Barton Community College women got off to a big start Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, extending an eleven point first quarter lead to a twenty halftime margin in cruising to a 75-52 victory over Dodge City Community College. The win improves Barton to 5-3 in Jayhawk play and 8-4 overall while sending the Lady Conquistadors to its fourth straight defeat in dropping to 2-6 in conference and 4-6 on the year. The Lady Cougars conclude the fall portion of the schedule on Saturday as Barton travels to Hutchinson Community College (6-2, 8-2) in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Looking to rebound from its worse loss of the season, the Lady Cougars were aggressive from the start resulting in nine Dodge City fouls leading to a 13-of-16 free throw shooting to build a 20-9 lead. Mallory Miller was perfect from the stripe going 8-of-8 while Micaela Jellison was 4-of-6.

Barton went to the stripe just four additional times in the second frame but outscored the Lady Conqs by nine in part to Juliana Chagas and Jaylin Stapleton three-pointers. Holding Dodge City without a field goal in the final 4:21, Barton extended the lead to 36-16 into the halftime break.

Another Stapleton three-pointer pushed the lead out to twenty-three before the Lady Conqs countered with an Alec Fitts trey leading to a 7-0 spurt cutting the deficit down to sixteen. Natasha Dolinsky ended the run with a three-pointer before later burying the second of her long shots in the quarter nineteen seconds before a pair of Taylor Regan trips to the free throw line ballooned the lead to twenty-nine points late in the third frame.

Regan would tack on eight of Barton's thirteen fourth quarter points to lead four Lady Cougars in double digit scoring with sixteen points to go along with seven rebounds. Stapleton matched Miller's perfect eight trips to the free throw line while dishing out six dimes on the night being joined by Miller with thirteen points. Jellison added twelve points in tying Irene Chukwudi for the team lead in rebounds with eight each.

Makaela Ewing's fourteen points off the bench led Dodge City in scoring with Fitts finishing with nine.

Since dropping its first two conference games, Hutchinson is the hottest team in the Jayhawk Conference winning its last six games. In Wednesday night's contest in El Dorado, the Blue Dragons' fought off deep foul troubles as its seventeen point third quarter lead finished up in a 59-53 win at Butler Community College.
