The Barton Community College women's basketball team broke open a twelve point halftime edge with a thirty point third quarter effort to roll up a 102-68 season opening victory Wednesday night at the Barton Gym over the junior varsity squad from Kansas Wesleyan University. Coming up for the Lady Cougars is the weekend's Best Western Cougar Booster Club Classic at the Barton Gym with Friday's action matched against Redlands Community College before another tough contest on Saturday against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. for both contests.

Jaylin Stapleton's thirty point debut led all scorers as the Meade, Kansas, freshman knocked down 4-of-5 from behind the arc and 8-of-10 from the charity stipe. With ten of the twelve Lady Cougars reaching the scoring column, four joined Stapleton's double-digit effort. Freshmen Natasha Dolinsky's 6-of-7 from the field led to fifteen points with Mallory Miller coming off the bench drilling four treys in adding fourteen points. Sophomore Juliana Chagas contributed eleven with a team high five assists while freshman Taylor Regan just missed a double-double night scoring ten points and collecting nine rebounds in leading a nineteen board edge over the visiting Coyotes.

As a team the Lady Cougars shot 51.4% including nearly 59% from long distance while holding the Coyotes to just 35.4% from the field and shy of 26% from behind the arc.

Courtney Brockhoff had a solid overall game to lead the Coyotes scoring nineteen of her team high twenty-six points in first half action while also leading the squad with seven rebounds. Haley Skelton contributed ten points off the bench with Faith Becker distributing a team high four assists.
