Pivotal late stretch sends Barton women to loss at Coffeyville

As was the case in the previous season's meeting, the Barton Community College women's basketball team again had a late decisive stretch go against their favor Saturday night sending the Lady Cougars to a 58-49 loss at Coffeyville Community College.  Barton drops to 12-13 in conference play and 15-14 while Coffeyville keeps pace for the third seed with a 19-6 record in the Jayhawk and 20-8 overall. Barton will conclude the regular season with a 5:30 p.m. tip on Monday hosting Neosho County Community College in "Sophomore Night" at the Barton Gym for a final tune-up before hosting a first round Region VI playoff game on Thursday.

Having led through three quarters of play in early January at the Barton Gym but had a five minute spurt trigger the loss, the Lady Cougars were in good shape Saturday night at Nellis Hall tied at forty with the host Red Ravens with 6:15 on the clock until a three minute stretch would be doomsday.  Two three-pointers in the next Coffeyville possessions proved critical as the Red Ravens would go on a 10-0 run in the next three minutes exploding the lead out beyond Barton's reach.

Lauren Welsch came off the bench to lead Barton in scoring with thirteen points while Baylee Robinson finished with ten.  Robinson was joined by Katrina Roenfeldt and Megan Jirak for team high rebound honors with six each with Roenfeldt and Welsch each distributing five assists.

Coffeyville had three players reach double digits as Antionette Daniels and Alanie Fisher each dropped fifteen with Patriece Dodson adding eleven.  Desiree Nelson led with six rebounds while fisher dished out a team high three assists.
