Long distance shooting leads Barton women to 71-55 victory over Independence

Striking for nearly 44% beyond the arc Saturday afternoon at the Barton Gym, the Barton Community College women's basketball team picked up their second straight victory by defeating Independence Community College 71-55.  Despite shooting just 31% from the field, the Lady Cougars made up the difference shooting over 83% from the charity stripe and getting a combined 9-of-17 long distance shooting from Regan Unruh and Katrina Roenfeldt.   The victory improves Barton's conference mark to 4-3 and 7-4 on the year while dropping Independence to 2-5 and 4-6 on the season.   The Lady Cougars have two more games remaining on the pre-Christmas schedule beginning with a Wednesday trip to Dodge City Community College followed by a Saturday date with nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College.  Tip-off times slated for 5:30 p.m. for both contests.

Unruh's career high twenty-five points provided a boost for the team's shooting woes as the Great Bend sophomore was 6-of-12 from the field including 4-of-8 from outside the arc.  Unruh also dished out a team high five assists and sank 9-of-10 as the Lady Cougars went 83.3% from the charity stripe making 25-of-30.  Roenfeldt also had a solid night from the field going 5-of-10 knocking down 5-of-9 from long range finishing with sixteen points and a career high seven steals.  Baylee Robinson just missed her fourth double-double performance of the year scoring eight points while hauling down ten rebounds.

Katarina Aktavina was the lone Pirate to reach double figures coming off the bench for twelve points while Jordan Schoenberger tied for game high rebound honors with ten.
