Lady Cougars pick up road victory to open conference play

The Barton Community College women's basketball team began its twenty-six game conference portion of the season Saturday in Colby coming away with a 57-52 win over the host Trojans of Colby Community College.  The victory improves the Lady Cougars to 4-1 on the season while dropping Colby to 2-3.  Barton's next game will come on Wednesday in hosting Garden City Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym.

Consecutive treys by Regan Unruh and Roenfeldt highlighted the first of two 6-0 runs midway through the frame as Barton would take the lead out to nine twice including the halftime 31-22 margin.

The Lady Trojans would cut the deficit to one midway through the third until Alexus Bryson's slash to the hoop stopped the 6-0 run, with Robinson pushing the lead back out to five one possession later.

Colby would again make a run in the fourth with consecutive treys suddenly cutting Barton's lead to 52-51 lead with 5:02 to play.  A Jalisa Jones slice through the lane followed by Megan Jirak's big  offensive rebound keeping the next possession alive led to Unruh stepping up draining a six-footer in the lane pushing lead quickly out to five.  The teams would manage just one point each in the final three minutes as Barton would hang on for its sixth straight victory in the series.

Robinson posted her second double-double of the season to lead the Lady Cougars scoring fifteen and grabbing eleven rebounds.  Roenfeldt and Unruh, despite going a combined 6-of-22 from the field, scored eleven each burying 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Dezyree Morales was the lone Lady Trojan in double figures scoring thirteen while also corralling a team high eight rebounds.
